Crooked number for the Braves. Gonna have to slug this one out, it looks like. This Braves pitcher is tough.
Got back from paddle boarding and see we are down 4-1 early. Looks like we will get two losses tacked on today as Pallante goes in game two, and he is terrible.
Course I said that before and he pitched well. But no way he can do that again.
Still 6 innings to go. Plenty of time to paddle up river and win this game if they can keep the Braves at 4 runs.
Gibby II doesn’t seem to have it today. Don’t want to parade a bunch of bullpen pitchers out with another game scheduled.
Seems like pitchers are not holding runners on very well this year. Quite often runners steal with ease.
I agree, Bikemike. I began too take notice of that last season. A lot of times they don’t even look at the baserunner.
Goldschmidt’s been around long enough to be aware of the concept of protecting the plate with 2 strikes. He looks at strike 3 a whole heck of a lot.
Goldy has looked at a lot of hittable pitches the last couple of years. And he swings at a lot where you can’t do much with. If he would just swing at more pitches that are right there he could put up numbers closer to his career norm. I don’t understand his taking what seems to be more good pitches than he did a few years ago.
Leahy is the guy I would have used Monday in the ninth with the 3 run lead. I like what I have seen of him. I think he would have gotten it done with less than three runs scoring and given Helsley an extra day.
Maybe we will see Gallegos today – yikes, could really get ugly.
Yeah, he looks at a lot of them go right on by, but with 2 strikes you’d think he’d try to protect. He could be guessing an awful lot. Who really knows?
The Braves with the bases loaded and none out get 4. The Cards in the same situation get 1. That could well be the difference in the game.
From the Braves standpoint, I like how Snitker stuck with Lopez. You get the guy and you are in line for the win. I would try to never pull a pitcher at 4 2/3 with a lead. Give him the confidence to get it done under most circumstances.
With a hot Donovan coming up, I think Ollie would have gone to a lefthander. And Brendan did hit it square, but right at the center fielder.
It’s good Short plays short. If Short was at second, or Short was at third, it would be quite a mess.
It could get downright Abbott & Costello-ish. “Short is on third.” “Short is on third? Who is on short?” “I don’t know.”
6-2. Might as well get Gallegos out of the way and bring him in.
Gio pitched. The results ended up ok with a walk and no hits. But the process to get there wasn’t good. It took him almost 30 pitches because he had no swinging strikes. Guys see his slider and aren’t fooled into chasing it like the old days. His pitch location was ok, if a bit wild. He stayed out of the middle.
Did not see the end of that one. Glad Gio got in there. If he is on the active roster then you gotta use him.

Looked like we had a chance for a minute or two, but no dice. Just can’t spot a good baseball team 4 runs early.
Liberatore doing extremely well in game 2. I think we just need to tell him he’s a reliever, tell everyone else he’s a reliever, and then let him start games. But keep making it clear to him he’s a reliever.
Maybe in his farewell season, we let him know that he’s actually been a starter all along.
He has always been able to turn in an impressive start here and there. Nothing new. But that isn’t the problem.
