Was over at my son’s house where my baby grandaughter was teaching her paw-paw 1TD how to swim, so was only able to tune in on the radio today…Gray with a first rate turn and some nice 2 out RBI’s off of the Redbird bats. I wasn’t at all too unhappy with the decision to go get Gray at 80 pitches and remove him from the heat of pergatory, but if the Cardinals wouldn’t have hung on for the W, I’d be complaining to high heaven…Haha! And oh, the Cardinals win another one, I wore sunscreen and didn’t blister or drown, so all is well!
Taking a gander at Sunday’s out-of-town scoreboard:
The Rays win over the Pirates at Forbes Field. 3-1 Tampa the final.
The Brewers have a 5-1 lead over San Diego in the 5th at Jack Murphy Stadium.
The Reds fall to the Red Sox. 7-4 Boston the final at Riverfront Stadium.
The Cubs and Mets later tonight in the ESPN game at Wrigley Field.
And the Braves came away with a 3-1 win over the Yankees.
Yeah, he’s made some key contributions lately. He was a genuine pain in my backside for a lot of years when he was in SF. You could do a lot worse than Brandon Crawford as a back up IF’er.
Amazing. Crawford starts playing more than once per week, his averages start trending towards more respectable levels. Who would have guessed?
It’s almost like your bench players need playing time…
Was at Coors Field for a second consecutive Sunday. The home club had a 1-0 lead going into the 9th, but coughed up two runs with our old buddy Tommy Lane, aka Lane Thomas getting a big hit. Alas Black stuck with the lefty reliever the entire inning rather than mixing and matching and the Nats pulled out a 2-1 victory.
Scoreboard watched the proceeding of our game. Felt good at 4-0, but when they put it to 4-3 I got nervous. Nice to see we held on. Two games over for the first time since 2022 I believe.
Looks like the Brewers are going to finally win one at San Diego. Milwaukee has a 6-2 lead in the last of the 9th at Jack Murphy Stadium. We will remain five games off the pace.
The Cardinals benefit from the SD loss in the sense that it enables them to take a full game lead for the second NLWC berth. There’s plenty of time to catch those Brewers…
It’s almost like your bench players need playing time…
In Crawford’s case, playing time would be at the expense of Winn and Arenado. Apart from filling in for bumps and bruises, where is playing time supposed to come from?
I think every bench player should be playing at least 2X per week (and ideally also rotating through DH once per week), which basically means he has to sub 1X per week for two different players.
But yes, Crawford really only has 2B, SS & 3B available, and he never played 3B before a few days ago, and has still not played 2B.
I’m guessing he’d be reasonably comfortable at any IF position. Heck, he’s built like he could be comfortable situated behind HP…Haha!
I’m watching that game. Counsell just walked out to the mound to get his pitcher and the crowd at Wrigley sounded a bit restless to put it mildly…
Mets closer Diaz is ejected for the presense of a sticky substance on his pitching hand. The cameras showed a close up of his right hand and it looked as though he’d had it immersed in a vat of industrial grade epoxy glue…Haha!
