Helsey has pitched much worse lately. Hopefully he can get a couple of Ks here to get out of this

That attempted force at HP was a little shoddy on both ends.

No doubter from Gorman to get it back to 1

Arenado and Herrera both flailing away at letter high fastballs.

We should have won that. Multiple small little mistakes and we lose by 1

Mikolas is simply cursed. Over his time with the Cards, they’ve given him exactly zero runs in nearly 40% of his starts.

Not sure we wanted our worst hitter up with the game on the line but the only alternative was Carlson from the left side. Call that a toss up decision.

Cardinals out hit the Pirates 8 to 3, but when your closer enters a scoreless game in the 9th and BB’s 2 of the first 3 hitters he faces, you expect to lose the game.

Bad teams find ways to lose! We have now given away two of the last three games! I think some on this team have just accepted losing!

Why was Herrera not in the game. We had a day off after a day game. We have a weak enogh lineup without taking a regular out of the lineup for no good reason.

Every single is a double with Herrera catching. One of the many issues for this team. I’ve accepted that anywhere close to 500 is the best this team will do. I expect worse.

Pages caught the day game Sunday also. Herrera started Saturday. Reset? Coach him up?

We sat Carlson this game, who was starting to contribute. Siani got the start right thru the final out.

Siani has 26 June PA’s and Carlson 21. They may be around equal if Dylan starts tonight, and Michael doesn’t. Siani has a .384 ops for June and Carlson .702 .

If Carlson cools off while playing, that’s on him. Play him Oli. Don’t let him cool off on the bench.

JJ we agree on many things. Carlson still has a chance to be an above average outfielder. Siani doesn’t. Play Carlson every day. Haven’t they seen this guy enough to know that he requires consistent playing time?

Mikolas logs a GmSc of 80. We have had low 70’s from Gibson and Gray, but the 80 tops the club this season. Miles shaved a half-run off his ERA.

It was 7 starts ago when Miles allowed 6 ER to the NYM.

In his last 6 GS, covering 36 IP, Miles has averaged a GmSc of 60, an ERA of 3.00, FIP of 3.83 and allowed an ops of .567 vs 134 batters.

    Play Carlson every day.

That has been tried numerous times, always with the same result. He gets hurt or tanks or both.

Yea Bling Carlson was going good and Walker steamrolled him. That was his fault.
Some genius decided Bloneil was a centerfielder. Carlson worked hard that winter and came into camp and played well. Got benched anyway. Carlson is just another development failure. Go ahead, give him away. He will have the last laugh.

It likely was, as the CF is in charge. But no matter, its always something with him.

Yah, well, we got a game today and two choices for CF. Reality bites.

I wonder if Ivan is demoted when Willson returns? TBD. Seems there’s a track meet when Ivan catches.

We use our A team out of the bullpen and still lose. Double whammy.

As for Herrera, I think the coaching staff/front office is figuring out that he can’t catch, although they said the same thing about Contreras last year. Regardless, if the staff has soured on him it might be time to sell high and trade him when Contreras comes back. At least his bat profiles as a nice backup catcher.

Carlson was always over valued in my opinion. Does that make him bad? No. Hes just your average run of the mill outfielder. Hes had some bad luck but you can only carry that excuse so long.

Carlson has had tons of chances to be an everyday player. He just can’t get it done.
