Donovan, Burleson, Goldschmidt, Gorman, and Arenado should be a formidable top five in the lineup against RHP. IF the are all firing on all cylinders. And that’s a big IF.

It’s been a long, LONG time since Goldschmidt and Arenado have been firing on any cylinders. Sub par years in 2023 and not much from them in 2024.

Din-din today was a Subway Italian BMT with lettuce, mayo, onions, mustard and four of their Chocolate Chip cookies. And as I type this I am making myself some homemade French Vanilla ice cream in my White Mountain freezer.

Cards need to win one of these next two games. Then make some hay on the upcoming homestand. I am going to call this one 6-3 Redbirds with Arenado getting off the schneid with a big dong to left.

I have doubts Pallante can put two good starts in a row together. I see this as a somewhat lopsided loss of the 11-3 variety. Hopefully I am wronger than Wrongy Wrongington on this, and we skate to a comfortable “W”. Houston is down this year and they don’t have the astute, insightful leader of men Dusty Baler at the helm, so we need to take advantage.

Are you implying that you’ve lost confidence in, “The Death Ball”?

Those Italian BMT’s were at one time a pretty good sandwich for a fair price, but the Subway near our house seemed to not only skimp on the ingredients the last couple of times I stopped there, but also raise up the price, so I quit going. They’re not alone though. I’ve noticed the same thing with quite a few fast food eateries in the last several years.

Agree on Subway, 1TD. At one time I loved them and would kind of get cravings for a Subway now and then. But over the years the quality has gone down. Lady Bike and I have a couple of favorites as far as chain sandwich shops – Firehouse Subs is our #1 choice, with the Italian being our go-to menu item there, and Jersey Mike’s second.

I’ve heard those Firehouse subs were good, Bikemike, but I’ve never tried one. Mrs. 1TD brings home a pretty good prepared sub sandwich from the deli section of our nearby Dierberg’s grocery store. I doctor it up a little and it’s not too bad. I’m a little spoiled on deli subs. There’s a place called LeGrand’s Market near our old house in the city that still has what I think are the best deli sandwiches in town. If you’re ever in StL. for a ballgame or anything else, I’d highly recommend it. My favorite is called the Legend Club

Edit…Some of the names of the deli sandwiches at LeGrand’s are as follows…

    Hoagie Berra…Haha!
    El Birdo
    McGwire Special
    LaRussa’s Triple Cheese Play
    The Hit Man

Thanks for the tip, 1TD. Still debating on my road trip later this summer on whether I will come back through St Louis and take in a game, or Springfield and see the AA club at Hammonds Field. Both Cardinals teams are home the weekend I will be venturing west, and it is “six of one, half dozen of the other” as far as driving distance.

Despite falling to 2 games under .500 after last night’s loss the Cardinals are still tied with the Cubbies for the third NL WC. I wonder what Banks, Callison, Santo, Colavito and Sisler would say about that?

They would probably say, “Man, I was born 50 years too early.” 😁

Yeah, it’s become rare to look at the career stats of any player of the last 20 to 25 years who has played more than 4 or 5 seasons and not see any post-season numbers next to his name. The fact is that it’s become no big deal at all to participate in the Big League baseball post-season. Years ago guys would have given their hind teeth for a chance to play in a LCS or WS.

I remember when Mickey Mantle held the record for most World Series home runs at 18. And I think Lou Brock was tied for most World Series stolen bases.

These days they usually talk in terms of “post season home runs” and things like that, so the old records are all smashed with guys now playing so many games.

Yeah, it’s silly. WS numbers are an entirely different proposition than are post-season numbers.

Burleson now with 8 taters on the season which is second on the team behind Gorman’s 13 HR’s. Shady’s really got Burly on a genuine rampage…Haha!

Ugh. Pallante way overthrowing. Gorman just dropping the ball on an easy pick-off. The offense may be better lately but most every other aspect is falling apart.

1tdc, I’m starting to see a Goldy trade for at least a #3 pitcher (if possible) and Burly installed at 1B. Whatcha think?

It would be my guess that any team interested in Goldschmidt would have to consider themselves to a be contender, and I’m not sure a contender would be in a big hurry to offer up a quality SP’er, but I guess anything’s possible. In any case, if Burleson mans up at 1B, you have to slot someone at DH. Who would that be?

I doubt they choose Siani 1TD.
