The Cardinals strike out too much.
With McGreevy it is going to be about two things next year. First is how he holds up over a ML season. Second is how does he do against opposition that now has him on the radar and will have all winter to develop strategies to get to him. His 51 AAA starts and at or near 30 starts 3 years in a row will give him an advantage in both areas.
57 pitches through 5 innings. Nice. Everybody, including the ump, probably has early dinner reservations today.
We have struck out 13 times in 6 innings, but have put 6 runs on the board.
Noot was looking like he would finish strong, but has crashed landed these last couple of games.
What a start by McGreevey. I know it’s not Murderers Row that he was up against, but this is maybe our best start all year. JJ can give us the game score later and let us know how this one ranked.

Its an odd thought, but I wonder if they have all already cleaned out their lockers at Busch, after the last home game, or if they maybe have a team meeting and then pack up their stuff for the winter.

The Reds FINALLY scored some runs. They got three runs in the top of the 10th at Wrigley and now have a 3-0 lead heading to the last of the 10th.
If the Reds can hang on we tie the Cubs for 2nd place at 83-79.

Well, that’s that. Nothing much at all to get too amped up about regarding the W/L column or in having a fighting chance to qualify for bonus baseball, but we got to see a season’s worth of what looks to be a pretty good Redbird SS for several seasons to come. Other than that my primary ’24 edition highlight was watching the “Bavarian Bismark Beast” take his turns in the rotation. He may not end up in the top 5 for the CYA voting, but he was entertaining…Haha! Maybe they’ll hire a Big League manager who the players actually respect and the Cardinals will compete next year.

Really did nothing except lower our chances for a better draft pick. 83-79 it is. Feels like the late 90s Cards before we went on the real run. But Pujols and Molina aren’t likely to be coming through the system anytime soon.
I rode him all year, but Goldy is a quality person and I wish him a nice rebound from this season.

We fans are fickle. Goldy is undoubtedly one of the best men in major league baseball, and he’s been nothing if not excellent for almost his entire time in St Louis. No doubt he would not enjoy going through the tank that’s coming.
I don’t think he’s likely to be a big bounce back guy, but he will find someone who is willing to give him a shot. Maybe even Arizona, who will lose Walker in all likelihood and wouldn’t mind sealing up that HOF hat for Goldy there with one more year at altitude.
His ’22 NL MVP award as a Cardinal 1B’man places his name next to those of Cepeda, Torre, Hernandez and Pujols. I recall a month long stretch during his MVP season in which he was destroying the baseball like no other Cardinal that I have ever seen with the exception of the great Albert Pujols. That’s really saying something.

Feels like Goldy had a great month every month besides April that year. Outside of Matt Carpenter’s salsa run that was the best offensive display I saw since Albert, too.
Yeah, he had a stretch that season in which he was ripping really good pitches for hits and it seemed like every mistake left the field of play. I recall being really impressed.
I didn’t get into it much this season, so fortunately I missed most of Goldy’s struggles. He’s what a real throwback pro looks like. He was fun to watch for most of his time in StL.
In the end, Father Time never loses and you never know when he’ll decide to not lose — if that’s what Goldy’s problem has been. Or maybe he has a bounce back left in him.
McGreevy makes a statement to be a big part of the 2025 rotation. No doubt that makes it easier for management to try to work a deal for Mikolas and Gray. And they will certainly pass on the option to Lynn, and maybe Gibson.
I think our 1966 club went 83-79 as well, and scored less runs than they gave up. We all know what happened the next year. Can history repeat? Don’t bet on it, but who knows.
And yes, Paul Goldschmidt is a class act and will be back someday as a Cardinal Hall of Famer. He gave us all he had, which unfortunately was getting depleted in these last couple of years. I hope he rebounds and gets to the post season somewhere next season, other than with the Chicago National League club. Arizona would be a perfect way to finish.
I’ve always thought he should have won an MVP with the DBacks in ’13. He clearly had the best numbers in virtually every offensive category to go along with his first GG.
