I had forgotten that the Giants won 107 games as recently as the ’21 season, but they sure haven’t experienced much if any post-season success since winning those three WS Championships a little more than a decade ago. For a little while, they were a genuine buzz-saw during the playoffs.
Well, let’s see…The Royals lost again, but backed into an ALWC berth by virtue of a Twins’ loss and I don’t think anyone envisioned the Tigers clinching a post-season berth, but that’s what they indeed did with their 6th straight W. The Braves win their 4th in row to move back into a virtual tie with the Mets and Dbacks in the NLWC race which probably won’t be decided until the last day of the season.
Congrats on a winning season.
Two things jumped out when I pulled up the box score. First is Herrera’s .301 BA and second is there is no one in the box score with a BA below .200.
Somebody mentioned Nootbaar, so I guess I am obliged to point out a couple things.
The first is its yet another part time player season. 107 games. last year 117 games, year before 108. The very first thing a player has to be able to do is play, otherwise you have to have another guy on the roster to take the reps.
The second thing is that when he was on the field, he was not very productive, unless you think Gorman was productive. To wit:

Well, runs and RBI are one way to measure production on an absolutely level…it is the goal of the offensive game, after all. So I think it’s somewhat valid. Nootbaar is better on the rate basis, but he hasn’t scored many runs (the point of being a top of the order bat) or driven in many (the point of being a middle of the order bat). So we are left with him being a solid #7-9 hitter, which we seem to have 7 or 8 of already.
Agreed, stlcard25. These stats have a relationship to the spot taken in the order. And of course, if the players don’t deliver, they get moved down in the order, with a lesser chance to accumulate these stats.
I just don’t see Nootbaar and Gorman as the kind of players I would compare. Their strengths are different as are their roles.
They said last night that Nootbaar was the 2nd best hitter in baseball this month after Ohtani for what that’s worth. He’s clearly been really hot lately. But staying healthy is the issue. Still, he’s definitely a starter unless the team trades him obviously. I think he’s 3rd on the club in OPS behind our 2 catchers.
We talk about Gorman as the power slugger of he and Noot, yet Nolans’ career slg% is .007 more than Lars. That is very similar, but rarely acknowledged.
I have little interest in what guys do when it doesn’t matter any more. See the bronze busts, who suddenly have a pulse. But yeah, it was mostly that I noticed the similarity in the numbers between Noot and Gorman. And its all about who gets the most runs after all.
The real issue in my mind is Noot’s inability to stay on the field. 3 year history now.
Yeah when the pressure is off it simply does not mean as much – particularly when both the teams in a game have been eliminated.
Do it when it counts and dont tell me what you did otherwise.
Bb, I wanted 600 pa’s from Donny, Noot and Gorman. Donny earned them, Gorman didn’t and Noot rode the often injured train, again, but maintained his numbers.
Runs and RBI are so lineup position dependent, my preference w/runners on, is just keep the line moving. Don’t make an out.
There’s a Grand Canyon between Lars and Nolan obp, regardless of whether they are trying to get on as a baserunner, or extending a rally by not making an out in an RBI opp.
I’d pair Donny and Noot as similar Runs/rbi, and then Gorman and Walker with obp’s I don’t trust in those opps.

I’d agree Gorman and Walker have been just plain bad hitters, and I agree Noot does not fall into that category. But we’ve had three straight years of 40 something RBIs out of him, and he’s a corner outfielder. To me, that’s a corner outfielder on a bad team with a bad offense. I’d also point out that his time as a min wage player is over. I’m not sure if 107 games, 45 RBIs and solid D can be had elsewhere for min wage going forward, but it does not seem out of the question, and BDW is pleading poverty.
