Although the fat lady’s already finished singing her sad song, I’ll probably stay up late and glance at the last few Redbird games of the ’24 season played out in Col. and SF. Not so much to take in the meaningless last handful of games of an inferior and underachieving Redbird ’24 edition, but simply because I’m a creature of habit. Baseball’s a long season and I become accustomed to the easy and relaxing routine of enjoying a game almost every day or night of the spring, summer and early fall. So it’s a bit difficult to let go of my everyday regimen of taking in the Cardinal baseball action. And I can only speak for myself, but I always experience a sense of melancholy at the tail end of a baseball season when my favorite team won’t qualify for bonus baseball in Oct. In any event, I want to thank all you Redbird fans for adding to the fun and excitement of Big League baseball and also for putting up with my nonsense…Haha! And oh, I’ll be enjoying the post-season just like always…GO ROYALS! If they don’t cough it up these last few games…

Cards missed a big opportunity to get a much better look at some younger players. They found a way to lose at losing, lol.

I’m in the same boat as you Dom. Wake work watch baseball. I sneak a bike ride in as well. I won’t say I am disappointed in this team because I was skeptical of the 2024 bandaids. But I supported them like a good soldier. And ZTR you are exactly right. These guys never seem to get it right. It’s truly time for big changes.

Since the rotation had been the biggest problem in 2023, I had thought that stabilizing it would make a bigger difference in this year’s result. I had not foreseen the offense collapse, led by the veteran bronze busts, the failure of Gorman and Walker, and the nearly season long absence of Contreras.

You are right Bling. My skepticism was focused on the geriatric pitching staff. Didnt expect the offense to implode.

I know they have to play the games but what is more depressing – especially in the age of 3 WCs – than a game between two eliminated teams?

You can’t know whether winning or losing means all that much as the player & lineup shuffling along with nothing to play for takes the edge off the game.

While I’ve frequently expressed disappointment in our birds this year I still love baseball and I still love the Cardinals, as did my father and grandfather before me. I can remember games on the radio echoing through our house as far back as the 1940s. The wonderful thing in these modern times of internet and computers is I can still follow the goings on in St. Louis from 4,500 miles away here at the foot of the Pyrenees. And I’ll continue to do so until the 2024 season is history. The good thing about baseball is “there’s always next year.”

What a place to live(Pyrenees)! Or as the Spaniards call it, “Pirineos”. You from the Ariege department…..and what originally took you to that region, Cardinal in France?

Would love to see Big Mac-G deal another dandy tonight. I would think if all goes fairly well, he’ll be toeing the starting rubber to conclude the 2024 campaign on Sunday.

I took a page out of Rat’s culinary book for lunch today by gobbling up a Hungry Man turkey dinner. The turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and corn are scrumptious. The carrots and cherry dessert I give the royal heave-ho straight into trash receptacle.

I am determined to follow along on gamecast and Kmox right up untill they turn off the lights for the season, although I almost always fall asleep before the last out. A six game winning streak would take the edge off the disappointing season.

I will experience both sides of the coin for a couple of games in this series. Tomorrow night I will be in a fancy corporate suite with “free” food and beverages. Thursday afternoon I will be in the cheap seats paying too much for a hot dog and beer in the early Fall sun.

Nothing at stake for either team, but these guys are all pros and will do what they can to win regardless of their club’s standing. Personal pride and auditioning for next year is still important.

Tonight will be KMOX as the game is blacked out here. Would love to see MLB get rid of that next year.

Pugs: At retirement time, I was working in Brussels. Madame CiF (French) and I (Texan) whittled our choices down to the southwest of the United States and the southwest of France. The bread and cheese won out over the enchiladas and refried beans. We landed about two miles out of a tiny village on the border between the Hautes Pyrenees and the Gers departments.

I’ll watch the three remaining day games on MLB-TV and the night game highlights next day, hoping they can keep their noses above .500.

Just finished a simple din-din of chicken and mushroom cream sauce with brown rice and a salad.

    Rah Cardinals!

“I have discovered in 20 years of moving around the ballpark that knowledge of the game is in inverse proportion to the price of the seats.” Bill Veeck

Edit…Maybe Johnny should pluck the next Redbird manager from the bleachers. We’d see him chomping a cigar in the dugout with a scorecard and a rolled up newspaper under him arm a transistor radio to his ear and a half pint of bargain brand Kentucky Deluxe in his back pocket…

I’ll be watching the first few innings tonight. Since it’s a meaningless game about 10:10 est I will be switching over to the Padres and Doyers from Doyer Stadium. LA has a three game lead on San Diego heading into tonight.

    Pugs?
I like the carrots in those Turkey TV dinners. And the cherry stuff too. Except there’s not enough of the cherry stuff.

…the nearly season long absence of Contreras.

It may have seemed that way, but it was not. Contreras appeared in 84 games and made 358 plate appearances. As his OPS was almost 100 points higher than anyone else on the team, the many games he missed definitely hurt.

I see where Quinn Matthews has been named the Minor League Pitcher of the Year by Baseball America.

For what it’s worth, I guess.

They’ll have to get Scott out to Denver before the team leaves for SF. Save a little on airfare.

Oh yeah, he’s not going to let those two knock off early with 8 hours pay…And he doesn’t want that added cost of Scott’s airfare to SF to go on the books either. He’ll be sure to have secretary Girsch call in Scott’s ticket to Denver for these 3 games. Coach section…

I’m pretty sure the front office is going to play the veterans for the sole reason that they don’t want the embarrassment of finishing under .500 again. Young player development be damned.

Gotta throw this din-din comment in; the lovely Lady Bike and I teamed up to put together chicken enchiladas and made Spanish rice as the side. They are excellent! Having them with an Octoberfest brew as we do not have any Mexican lager.

And like others I will miss the cadence of regular Cardinal baseball after next week. I too get into a regular schedule of dialing up the games, and like KCB ride the bike most every day. For afternoon games I do both, listening to the KMOX broadcast while riding.
