RF J. Walker RSeptember 14, 2024 at 12:43 pm #267258This lineup says a lot about how things went. Walker batting ninth and Gorman not even on the team. Formerly good above the middle of the order hitters Donovan and Nootbaar now down in the order hitters. The top of the order consists of a .320 OBP leading off and a platoon player hitting second. The middle of the order power bats are the bronze busts with OPS+ 99 and 98 respectively. Oh lawd, were do you even start to try and fix that mess.
September 14, 2024 at 1:49 pm #267259BTW,
How did Gorman do in his time down in Memphis? Any progress or did he still strikeout all the time?September 14, 2024 at 2:04 pm #267260He didn’t strike out too much but was hitting .230. Had 6 homers in 17 games.
September 14, 2024 at 2:47 pm #267261Our #9 hitter puts us up 1-0. It was a solo, none on and two outs.
Gibson immediately gives up a homer so its 1-1.

His #’s would be good if it weren’t for his sub 300 obp
September 14, 2024 at 3:41 pm #267263I don’t agree that hitting .230 against minor league pitching is good, but yeah, the OBP is a problem.

It stands to reason if his obp increased his ba would as well.
September 14, 2024 at 3:59 pm #2672654-1 now on only four hits for the Blue Birds. Red Birds with two hits. Looks like the hammer will officially fall on this season next week.
Sac fly makes it 5-1 Jays. Blue Jays with nice uniforms today to go with what looks to be a victory.
September 14, 2024 at 4:03 pm #267266It looks like an error by Winn was it for Gibson. Then Rule 5 guy threw gas on the fire.
September 14, 2024 at 4:08 pm #267267The ball bounced right into Pages glove.
September 14, 2024 at 4:12 pm #267268I would love to see Vlad Jr on the Cards next year via a trade or the year after via FA. Vlad Jr has personality and plays the game with energy. Fans love him in general so go get him Dewitt to bring up attendance.

Perfect player for Busch
September 14, 2024 at 4:36 pm #267270Heck, I’d take Vlad Sr.
September 14, 2024 at 4:36 pm #267271The bullpen coach must hand each guy a bucket of gas when he heads out to the mound.
September 14, 2024 at 4:38 pm #267272High test.
September 14, 2024 at 4:38 pm #267273I don’t know who made the comment in another thread but I agree – this team is a mess.
I’ve said it before on here. This team might be in for a run of some really bad years. We might become another Cincinnati and Pittsburgh – if we aren’t already there.
September 14, 2024 at 4:41 pm #267274I would love to hear the trade ideas that would A) convince Toronto to trade him and B) have a chance at being the best offer they could get for him.
September 14, 2024 at 4:49 pm #267275We are back to .500 and 7.5 out of the last WC. If the Mets win, they lead 4-3 in the 7th, we will be 8 back.
September 14, 2024 at 5:07 pm #267276The elimination number is shrinking – in single digits.
If the combined wins/losses number to clinch is the “magic” number, what is the combined number for elimination? Maybe the “mortal” number?
Think our “mortal” number might be something like 7.

Lars Nootbaar, Tink Hence and Luken Baker, maybe throw in a low level guy. For one year of Guerrero, that’s better than they’d be likely to get anywhere else. Most would think it’s an overpay but I’m basically on board with trading almost anyone for an upgrade to a sure thing bat for the lineup.
September 14, 2024 at 5:42 pm #267278I can hear the “we were in it until the end” and “not eliminated until September X” spin now.
In what? Barely withing shouting distance of the 3rd WC spot?
September 14, 2024 at 6:08 pm #267280This season’s high water mark was 6 over even with a low mark of 9 under. They were never really competing for anything other than the title of a dull and lifeless team. Run of the mill mediocrity at best.
September 14, 2024 at 7:02 pm #267281The Cardinals aren’t going anywhere next year either, so I wouldn’t trade anything for one year of anybody. If a deal could be reached to sign Vlad long term, then sure. Give them their pick of a guy or two off our active roster and one or two of our bum shoulder pitching prospects. If they would settle for Roby, Hence, Hjerpe and Graceffo, then go with that.
