Fred Dryer was a Pro Bowl D-End who had his own successful TV show for many years.

Uh…Johnny Weissmuller won Olympic Gold and became synonymous with Tarzan.

Arnold was a big star in both Hollywood and the sport of Bodybuilding.

Uek wsn’t bad. Chuck Connors maybe, although he only had a cup of coffee as a professional athlete.

Speaking of that sort of thing, today is what I call “Kings Memorial” day. Two “kings” passed away on this date, the King of Clout, and the King of Rock & Roll.

That’s a coincidence that I wasn’t aware of. Two genuine cultural icons of America who happened to say goodbye on the same date. I’ll never forget seeing the sad news about Elvis on the front page of the StL. newspaper. Poor guy was only 42.

I thought about Uek but he’s FAR from a big name in baseball history. But he is certainly the best bench warmer turned comedian, turned actor to ever do it

Yeah, Uek goes way back to the early 70’s with his act on the Tonight Show with Johnny and he was a star in what was undoubtedly one of the best ad campaigns ever. You can’t get much better than the Uek for a good laugh.

I recently read a good biography about Mike Donlin, an early 20th century player who was really good and also did a lot of stage and screen acting.

His wife, Mabel Hite, was hugely popular as a stage actress. They were sort of the Swift/Kelce couple of the day for a number of years there.

I think “Turkey Mike” Donlin may have combined baseball success and acting better than anyone.

Fred Dryer played 13 season in the NFL. He’s in the college football Hall of Fame.

Merlin Olsen is another one that was a great professional athlete and did quite a lot of acting.

Well maybe, but Ueker was acting while he was playing baseball…

So on this date exactly 60 years ago, and 16 years after the Babe passed, but 13 years before the King followed suit, the Cardinals were…you guessed it, 9 games off the pace of the league leading Phillies.

Can history repeat? Well maybe, if the Brewers do their part and go into a 10 game slide in late September. But can the Cardinals get hot? Asking for both to happen is really pushing the odds.

I would like to see Walker change his stance. Close it up a little and get that front foot down – get it balanced better. As it is he looks to be leaning back and outside pitches are tough to get.
