RHP Miles Mikolas (8-8, 4.99) vs. LHP Justin Steele (2-5, 3.38)

The runs we got on Saturday were basically gifts from the Cubs. Three of the five were.
We are middle of the road in the NL in batting average and near the bottom in runs scored.

Because our hitting stinks?
August 3, 2024 at 5:50 pm #262919Splitting a series with a team behind us in the standings isn’t going to do us any good, but its the best that can happen.
I was happy with the 7 inning start. From an old geezer. Why can’t the young guys do that?
August 3, 2024 at 6:15 pm #262920I agree Bling. Kept the game from being one of those fiascos I hate.
August 4, 2024 at 8:14 am #262947We need an encore from Mikolas today to slink out of town with a split.
Gorman has just about whiffed his way to the bench. 38% for the season. Jeebus…
Cards have been stuck in neutral for a solid month now. I suppose it is better than being mired in the cellar like last year but good grief.
August 4, 2024 at 8:40 am #262951Gorman has just about whiffed his way to the bench. 38% for the season. Jeebus…
At least you can sit Gorman when you get tired of it. Oldy and Nolan “boat anchor” Arenado play no matter what.
August 4, 2024 at 8:43 am #262952Yeah, not capitalizing on this relatively mild stretch of opponents is a concern, as we will be seeing some stronger competition in August and September. We definitely need to kick it up a couple of notches if we want to be contenders.
And these Sunday night games are the one schedule oddity I don’t like. Sunday is for day games and getting out of town. Sunday night games really messes things up – I am sure the players hate them. But then they probably have mixed feelings as the cash that comes in because of them ends up helping the business.
August 4, 2024 at 9:05 am #262954Goldy, Arenado, Gorman, Walker, the entirety of the expected heart of the order failed this season, with the exception of Contreras, and he was out a good while. All of the middle of the order power was supposed to come from there. Taking nothing from the complimentary players who have stepped up, the offensive troubles are easy to understand, and could have been even worse.
Thinking about the heart of the order for next season is frightening. It is looking like Mo is going to have to buy it, or mostly, if we are to be formidable.
August 4, 2024 at 1:18 pm #262989I agree bling.
Goldy is most likely gone. Unless he accepts a big time team friendly contract.
And Arenado is trending worse as well. Walker has fizzled out. Gorman does nothing but strikeout.
In 2025 this team needs a big bat in the lineup. Anybody have any idea who might be available? Walker from Arizona will be a free agent. Who else might we be looking at?
August 4, 2024 at 3:01 pm #262999I like to today’s lineup with Pham batting 5 and Burleson 6, playing LF, vs the lefty. First five in the lineup are righty hitters. Nationals won over the Brewers. Cards need to pick up a game in the standings today.
August 4, 2024 at 3:15 pm #263000That’s right Mr. Shady! Taking a gander at Sunday’s out-of-town scoreboard:
As Shady said, the Nationals won over the Brewers. 4-3 Washington the final at RFK Stadium. We can get to 4.5 games out with a win tonight. Unlikely we get that win though as Mikolas is usually a batting practice pitcher.
The DBacks lead the Pirates 5-4 in the 8th at Forbes Field.
And the Reds lost to the Giants today. 8-2 San Francisco the final at Riverfront Stadium.
The Rockies and Padres getting ready to start out west at Jack Murphy Stadium.
And Bernie Sanders still running in 4th place in the race for the Oval Office.
August 4, 2024 at 3:17 pm #263001Why would you like Arenado and Goldy hitting in front of Pham?
August 4, 2024 at 3:43 pm #263006Now THIS should be interesting… scheduled for the bottom of the third inning…
Sunday, @Cardinals outfielder Tommy Pham will be mic'd up for a live in-game conversation

August 4, 2024 at 3:57 pm #263009It’s very difficult coming right back and defeating the same team that you just gift wrapped a victory to the previous day. Even though they have the better pitcher going this evening and they’re playing at home, which of course usually bodes very well for success, tonight is ADVANTAGE ST. LOUIS. Though not a “bet the ranch game”, you’d still in all likelihood put some nice change in your pocket by plopping down some coin on the Cardinals. Let’s call it 7-4 Birds shall we. And for din-din, for the fourth time in five din-dins, I’ll be cruising over to Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse…..leaving in about 10 minutes. And the notable news about this particular din-din is that I’ll be going off diet for dessert for the first time in a couple weeks, as I’ll be picking up not 2, but 3 Popeye’s apple cinnamon pies on my way home……sometimes you gotta live a little.

jj-cf-stlParticipantOli went feast or famine with the batting orders handedness stagger. Sometimes it works.
August 4, 2024 at 4:46 pm #263018It is a lineup that depends upon the bronze busts producing. That is what they get paid for.
August 4, 2024 at 4:55 pm #263019Three lefty hitters in a row?????
And Arizona wins over Pittsburgh. 6-5 DBacks the final at Forbes Field today.
Padres leading the Rockies 3-1 in the 6th.

ParticipantHope Pham doesn’t slip up with several you know whats.
August 4, 2024 at 5:17 pm #263022Has anyone given any serious thought to the coincidence that Goldy’s offensive decline began with his switch to a bat with a large cancerous knob on the end? Oddly called a puck knob.
August 4, 2024 at 5:18 pm #263023It is a lineup that depends upon the bronze busts producing. That is what they get paid for.
That it is. Maybe they break out?
August 4, 2024 at 5:24 pm #263024The big knob is supposed to somehow help guys catch up with a fastball. I saw some talking head explaining it on TV a while back.
