Yeah, Harry Caray and Jack Buck were in my view the best ever play by play radio team in baseball. I liked them both, but Harry was always my favorite. I almost never turn up the sound on the TV broadcasts nowadays, but on the rare occasions that I do, I find Chip Caray to be a pretty good television play by play guy. All I’ll say about Joe Buck is that I don’t know what happened to him…

jj-cf-stlParticipantGood time for some thump!
July 29, 2024 at 8:49 pm #262178The Nationals are at it again.
They have jumped on Jordan Montgomery and the DBacks for five runs in the 1st.
Still batting……
July 29, 2024 at 8:58 pm #262180Bases loaded last of the 7th. Nobody out.
Check that – Carpenter just struck out.
Siani up with the bases loaded and one out.
A chance to get back in the game!
UPDATE:
Siani singles to center. 6-3 now. Bases loaded with one out and Winn up.

jj-cf-stlParticipantHes letting Siani take a bases loaded, 1 out PA.

jj-cf-stlParticipantOli knows best! 4 straight singles.
Bwahaha!July 29, 2024 at 9:02 pm #262184Siani got a big hit off Skenes a week ago, and gets one here. He’s looking better with the bat as he plays more. Build the confidence and who knows what he might be able to accomplish.

jj-cf-stlParticipant6-3 TEX after 7
No thump
July 29, 2024 at 9:03 pm #262186Winn lines into a DP.
Great, just great. Rangers have all the luck in this one.
6-3 Texas after seven innings.
July 29, 2024 at 9:03 pm #262187Oh man, that was unfortunate.
July 29, 2024 at 9:04 pm #262188Big RBI base hit from Siani, but that single to RF should have scored two runs. Should have forced the action and waved Nootbar home.
July 29, 2024 at 9:07 pm #262189Yeah, Pop was real conservative on that. But it looked like it could have been close, however the throw was way off line.
Roycroft has the physical presence of a latter day Todd Worrell, but needs to get better command.
July 29, 2024 at 9:10 pm #262190That baseball bounced close to 25 to 30 times before it touched the RF’ers mitt. Two runs easily score unless Zsa Zsa’s the runner at 2B…

jj-cf-stlParticipantI don’t know of Lahey much, but I do know he gets outs.
July 29, 2024 at 9:17 pm #262192
jj-cf-stlParticipantSeems like Oli doesn’t come and get Leahy much. Must be good vs both.
July 29, 2024 at 9:30 pm #262194I don’t think I’ve seen that since Yadier and Albert.
July 30, 2024 at 1:17 am #262201Poor bullpen decisions by Ollie again. He has a mania for platooning and pulled Fernandez brought in King to face one batter. Waste, One inning instead of two by solid relief pitchers.
Then in the 7th brings in Roycroft who had a lot of early success but had been roughed up some lately. Young pitchers usually get hit hard when they come up or do well until they get rougherd up in a game. Then often they lose a bit of confidence and the edge that gave them the early success. No need to waste Fernandez and King that way. Then trailing by only one run could have had us in the 8th trailing by only one run and time to use our best bullpen members.
Ollie seems very reluctant to use our top relievers when trailing in close games. Quite a few losses when his bullpen choices allowed a one run deficit turn into larger margins. much easier to come back from a one or even a two run deficit than the 4 run margin they faced tonight.
July 30, 2024 at 5:34 am #262202Sadly, there is little about this offense that gives one confidence they can came back from a deficit late (or score enough early, either). More often than not, three runs aren’t enough to win.
