Is there any doubt that Mike Leake will shut us down? We might see a no-hitter tonight as poor as the Cardinal hitters are.

But we did catch a break last night. The Pirates down the Cubs 5-1 and the Reds beat the Brewers 5-4 in 11 innings. The Reds won on a little league play by the Brewers in the last of the 11th.

So the Cards are still standing on the short side in a division of dwarfs. But the taller dwarfs are still within reach, so somebody must be doing a good job.

Leake has trended downward his last two outings, giving up 19 hits and 12 (11 earned) runs in 11 and 1/3 innings. Is that good or bad for the Cards?

Before long we are going to be monitoring the Pirates and Reds instead of the Cubs and Brewers.

Every time we are up against a RHP I wonder how much better we could be with some more LH hitters? Good to see more hits again…congrats Cards! Need to get more 8th and 9th inning offense now and we’ll be gaming again! Go Cardinals!

Exactly Wooster. We have needed more lineup balance for a long time. We have way too many RH hitters on the roster and the few LH hitters we have are providing little production (Carp, Fowler, Wong).

The Pirates got two in the last of the 9th and beat the Cubs 6-5. Contreras, playing RF, went from the hero in the 8th when he threw out a runner at the plate to the goat in the 9th when he couldn’t catch a flyball after a fairly long run. Kimbrel a blown save.

Also, Russell tried to throw out a runner at home on a grounder when he should have taken the out at first.

I would be so happy if Craig Kimbrel is holland 2.0. Hate it for Kimbrel since I like him but just because I want the cubs to feel the Greg Holland pain

well waino is pitching well though his pitch count is high. with the division the way it is, its hard to make sense of anything. its right there for the taking but we are closer to last place than we are first. I thought we could have an entertaining division but I was thinking because of how good all the teams could be. its still entertaining in a way but its more because of how bad all the teams are. maybe we should just combine the teams to create 2 or 3 good ones.

I really need to follow through with my fantasy baseball strategy of starting everyone who pitches against the cardinals

Seriously does a team get any worse to watch than this?

well that play by bader is why I like him so much. yea sometimes he does it at the wrong time but experience will help stop that. it didn’t work out this time far as him scoring but it gave us an opportunity. most players don’t even think of trying to go to second there.

I think we may be going too long with waino here. kind of like last night when Flaherty gave up that two run homer. waino only gives up a hit here but I still think he shouldn’t have started the inning.

Edman pinch hit 3-run home run! 3 outs and we got this one…finally an exciting one from our guys!

Give me Edman Munoz Martinez dejong in the lineup every night

Imagine if you had voit Mercado Pham and Kelly too. That’s why you don’t trade just to trade

That just got me pumped. I guess it just doesn’t take much but there is still talent around here. It just needs to play

Edman and Munoz play baseball like every stroke is their last chance. Even if Munoz doesn’t always play well in the field he busts his ass. And his defensive metrics are way better this year in limited sample. Play these guys. They want to ply and they want to win

Doesn’t matter what you had. OF depth and catching depth made those people expendable. Plus someone couldn’t shut his mouth and we know how the ownership loves vocal player.

I don’t understand why Miller couldn’t close this out. I fill using Carlos is a waste. Miller was dialed in.

this will be a good win. offense still struggled til the ninth so we got a ways to go but it still feels good to score some runs.

They won but the moment is over quickly with the short turnaround. We need another quality start from Wacha. I feel this offense still can’t be trusted unless it gets production from a couple veterans that are sputtering.

Kelly was the catcher of the future for a while. Yadi is hurt so I won’t fault him completely but kisner is no sure thing either. Voit should have been given a chance at least. This is their job to evaluate talent and not trade a guy who is opsing what Mercado is just to trade. Time for yadi to take an apprentice and us to have a manager who has a rep and isn’t a puppet for the FO

The losers mentality needs to end. The end of my rant and I apologize very much. Just think the talent is here and we traded some of it for way less than we got back

    As Kenny powers would say

“I’m very upset with how I’m acting right now. I just have a very hard time expressing my emotions and I can’t stop from yelling. So, I’m very sorry, I don’t mean to offend you Wayne, you have pissed me off, but I’m just very upset right now. So, I’m going to go ahead and go, but I’m not going to stop yellin’ because then that’ll mean I lost the fight.”

The losers mentality? I think I was the one back in the old ESPN days would say “Do you want to win or not”?

Voit because of Carpenter at the time was blocked. He was not going to get any play after Carpenter caught fire. He would not be the same hitter in STL that he would be playing in Yankees stadium.

But….the big outlier! He mashing almost 1,000 ops on the road. Hard to explain but he does play in Baltimore and Boston for instance for a few games.

Hey I’d miss that production as well but that bridge has been crossed. Honestly they should’ve signed Donaldson and left Carp at 1st and declined his option at years end but we’re only a half season in. Maybe Goldschmidt will explode.
