6:05 p.m. RHP Miles Mikolas (2-2, 5.29) vs. RHP Max Scherzer (1-3, 4.12) Fox Sports Midwest // KMOX
May 1, 2019 at 11:10 am #89457I stayed up late last night and watched the Cubs/Mariners game from Seattle. Schwarber clobbered a two out two run homer in the 8th to put the Cubs up 6-5. It went 440 feet. Anyway, they held on for the 6-5 win. Seattle hit into DPs in the 6th, 8th, and 9th that killed them. The Cubs announcers were talking about how they have the Cards and Brewers on their next homestand and they might be able to make up some ground. But Bubba Aguilar is finally getting hot so they will have to contend with him. He has three homers in the last two games.
Anyway, Scherzer will be a tough one tonight. I will be home for this one. I am thinking Mikolas twirls a gem as well and the Cards eke out a 2-1 victory in this one.

stlcard25ParticipantShould be a tough game tonight and it may be a pitchers duel. Then again, the Cards have been playing so well lately that they, if anyone, can get to Scherzer.
May 1, 2019 at 6:16 pm #89487I’m really confused by how we start benching Fowler more than ever when he’s hot and playing pretty good defense. I don’t mind it considering we’re on a roll, but I do find it interesting
May 1, 2019 at 6:19 pm #89488Top of 1. Max Scherzer on the hill for Washington.
Carp – Struck out 4 times last night. On 3-2 Matt lifts a fly to right where last night’s centerfielder, Robles, camps under it and has it for the out.
Goldy – 1-18 lifetime vs Scherzer. And on cue he promptly laces a single to right.
DeJong – Hot shot grounder past the shortstop and out into center for a hit….Goldy had to stop at 2nd. That’s 11 straight games Paul has now registered a hit in.
Marcell – Fists a fly to short right where Robles seems a bit troubled with it…and he dives but can’t come up with it and the ball scoots on by! Goldy scores with DeJong taking 3rd and Marcell checking into 2nd…1-0.
JMart – Stings a shot….past the SS Kieboom and out into center for a hit!…DeJong scores with Marcell hightailing it around 3rd and he’ll score….3-0 Birds!
Yadi – 6-4-3 Twin killer.

Nats 0May 1, 2019 at 6:20 pm #89489Dexter has a nasty case of the flu, GaCard.
May 1, 2019 at 6:29 pm #89490That makes a lot more sense. Don’t know how I missed that
Thanks, pugs
May 1, 2019 at 6:30 pm #89491Mikolas allows just the 1 hit while whiffing 2…..3-0 Cardinals heading to the 2nd.
May 1, 2019 at 6:35 pm #89493Anytime GaCard. Top of 2.
Wong – First pitch swinging and he lofts a fly to right where Robles takes a few gallops toward center and gloves it for the out.
Bader – Skies one deep to right…Robles back to the wall and has just enough real estate to haul it in. Boy that Robles has been a busy man thus far in the early going here tonight.
Mikolas – Grounds out to Difo at 2nd

Nats 0May 1, 2019 at 6:40 pm #89495Is it just me or does anyone else get jittery on any ball hit JMart’s way…..no matter how routine it may be. And this year he doesn’t deserve that as he’s been fairly reliable defensively……and of course super reliable with a piece of lumber in his hands. I’m thinking he just may be all star material this July.
May 1, 2019 at 6:42 pm #89497Mikolas sets them down just as if they were in a little chorus line…..1-2-3.
May 1, 2019 at 6:49 pm #89498Top of 3.
Carp – Strikes out looking, but by George, Matt is out of his prolonged slump. You could see it in the fluidity of his swings in that at bat. Welcome back, Carp!!
Goldy – Pops it up….Kieboom races out from short and hauls it in, in short left for out #2.
DeJong – Whiffs swinging.

Nats 0May 1, 2019 at 6:56 pm #89499Mikolas is experiencing no difficulties whatsoever with these Nats, as once again he moves them down with the greatest of ease….1-2-3.
May 1, 2019 at 7:02 pm #89500Ozuna rips that down the line for a double.
Marco didn’t last long against the Cubs today. They get a day of rest before facing us.
May 1, 2019 at 7:08 pm #89501Top of 4.
Marcell – On 0-2 Marcell smokes a liner down the left field line and he’ll have his second double…..boy did he blister that baby! Max who? Marcell doesn’t care who’s pitching right now because he’ll hit any pitcher who attempts to throw a ball by him.
JMart – Strikes out swinging.
Yadi – Lofts a fly to right center where Taylor will take command of the play and has it…. with Marcell still hanging around 2nd base.
Wong – Walks on 4 straight wayward ones….and take a picture because Max doesn’t issue many free passes. I believe that’s only his 6th walk on the year.
Bader – Strikes out swinging and this half inning came in like a lion….but unfortunately finished like a lamb.

Nats 0May 1, 2019 at 7:11 pm #89502This joint is dead. I think I’ll put down the PBP mic and enjoy the game with whoever may be left here.
May 1, 2019 at 7:14 pm #89503Oh Oh! Nats occupying 1st & 3rd bases and no outs…..up strides our old pal, Big City Adams.
May 1, 2019 at 7:16 pm #89504Big City stuffs flailing!
May 1, 2019 at 7:17 pm #89505Whiffs not stuffs!
May 1, 2019 at 7:25 pm #89506Bases brimming over with Nats here in the Nationals 4th. 2 out with Michael Taylor st the dish….let’s stay with the action for a moment shall we?
Taylor – Lines a shot, but right in the vicinity of Harrison Bader in center and Mikolas and the Cards only escape with one run being scored.

Nats 1May 1, 2019 at 7:32 pm #89507Scherzer sets down Mikolas, Carp and Goldy in order as we move along to the bottom of the 5th in a 3-1 Cardinal ballgame.
May 1, 2019 at 7:53 pm #89508I agree with Brad Thompson. I don’t see how that is interference. Only argument would be he maybe moved a bit from a straight line to 3rd.
May 1, 2019 at 7:57 pm #89509
stlcard25ParticipantI just got home so I’m watching but in between other things going on. Good to see a few runs off Scherzer. I see Gomes leading off the 6th with a double. Mikolas has been in a little trouble the last few innings it seems.
May 1, 2019 at 8:03 pm #89510
stlcard25ParticipantSaved by the bullpen door?? Mikolas escapes the jam and maintains the 3-1 lead. How about some runs off that soft Nationals bullpen tonight, eh?
