12:15 p.m. RHP Michael Wacha (0-0, 1.54) vs. RHP Walker Buehler (1-0, 6.75) FOX Sports Midwest // KMOX // WJIR
April 11, 2019 at 7:07 am #86886I want to be the first to say in the immortal words of Ben Stein, “Beuhler, Beuhler”
April 11, 2019 at 7:30 am #86894
stlcard25ParticipantGonna be a tough afternoon to keep one eye on the Masters and one on the Cards! Wacha has been good save for the weird walk game last time out. Buehler dominated us last year. Should be a good pitchers game.
April 11, 2019 at 9:29 am #86916While we weren't standings-watching, much has changed. With a win today, the #stlcards would pull into a tie for first place in the Central Division.

April 11, 2019 at 10:27 am #86926Where in the world is Jed Gyorko? He has been active for 6 games so far and made two pinch hit appearances. Could he possibly still be ailing with the leg? I think Shildt is a bit hesitant at the moment to disturb his infield until somebody shows signs of being tired. Carp, DeJong, Wong and Goldy seem to be holding down the fort quite well. Maybe Jed will get some time in Monterrey. But I think that Munoz will also be south of the border so we may see a couple of fill in players this weekend. In the meantime, Yadi will determine when Yadi sits (according to DeWitt/Mo/Girsch/Shildt in Sept 2018)
April 11, 2019 at 10:32 am #86928Jedd is in the starting lineup today.
April 11, 2019 at 10:46 am #86929Thanks. I should have looked first. I see that Carp, Dex and Yadi are getting a rest day. Probably a good time for that.
April 11, 2019 at 11:48 am #86938Has anybody noticed how horrendous Rosenthal has been so far this year for Washington?
April 11, 2019 at 12:48 pm #86939Dodgers playing Home Run derby so far with Wacha through 2 innings 3-0, but Birds got something going here bottom 2
April 11, 2019 at 12:57 pm #86940Cards make it 4-3 on Bader scoring from 2ND on a WILD PITCH speed kills for sure!!
April 11, 2019 at 1:19 pm #86941
stlcard25ParticipantWhen a pitcher the caliber of Buehler has an off day, you hope to grab them by the throat and shut them down.
Instead, Wacha hacking up runs and homers like a shedding cat and it’s 7-4 Dodgers.
April 11, 2019 at 1:26 pm #86942I’m sure the bullpen is looking forward to tomorrow. Everyone might be pitching today
April 11, 2019 at 1:32 pm #86943Just turned on the game and what the hell happened to Wacha? Geebus. He doesn’t need to throw 119 pitches again because he’s useless his next start.
April 11, 2019 at 2:14 pm #86949Can’t remember which day someone commented about the camera angle being changed by FSM, but this article has the answer why.

April 11, 2019 at 2:18 pm #86950This may have been the best pitch thrown all day.
Sister Mary Jo Sobieck throwing straight gas 🔥
Someone give her a contract.

April 11, 2019 at 2:21 pm #86951Bader HBP with the bases loaded for the second time today followed by a Wieters two-run single puts the Cards up 8-7. Still only the fifth inning.
April 11, 2019 at 2:36 pm #86954the angle is still terrible, the straight on view is the best and we had the best in baseball before this year
i could care less about the strike zone graphic having some overlap on the pitcher, i want to see the true strike zone as best as possible.
it worked well for a long time, changing it now is solving a problem no one was saying was a problem other than themselves
this is a punchers game…i feel whoever punches last will win
April 11, 2019 at 2:36 pm #86955Cards up 9-7 after an error on Muncy brings home Bader and Wong then proceeds to steal 2nd. Dodgers catcher Rocky Gale is 0-7 with basestealers. Carp pinch hit for Gallegos and strikes out and Goldy pops up to short.
McCarver made a good point about Goldy taking a lot of first pitch strikes and should be more aggressive in the box.
April 11, 2019 at 2:41 pm #86957That Sobieck dame’s got panache. Nice arm, too.
The StL bullpen 2018: 22nd in MLB in K/9 rate, and 29th in BB/9.
This year’s bullpen: 23rd in MLB in K/9 rate, and 28th in BB/9.So why is the bullpen ERA so much improved? Simple. This year’s relief corps has allowed a .159 average on balls in play. In other words, they’ve so far been by far the luckiest bullpen in the history of the sport.
Last year, the lowest bullpen BABIP was the Athletics at .265; in 2017 the leader was the Yankees at .272; the year before that it was the cubs with a .262 BABIP allowed. You get the idea.
This year’s pitching staff will rise or fall based in large part on AAA callups and July trade acquisitions. And they better get something pretty big from Carlos Martinez, too. Because the current bullpen is built on sand.
Lighter note: great, great rally today. Way to fight back, boys, whatever the eventual outcome.
April 11, 2019 at 2:42 pm #86958Jose Martinez is making a strong case today for more playing time.
#stlcards OF Jose Martinez had just three hits in his first 12 games (22 at-bats). Today so far, 4-for-4 and the game is only in the sixth inning. pic.twitter.com/xhx0wR6jxW

April 11, 2019 at 2:43 pm #86959also…Gallegos looked pretty great
I wonder if he is going to send Munoz back to AAA after the Mexican series
i liked Gallegos last year and think he deserves a longer look
i know Webb will get the longer look it seems because of his handedness, but Gallegos has sharp stuff
April 11, 2019 at 2:48 pm #86960Rocky Gale is having a rocky day. Cards now up 11-7. Nine outs away from a sweep. Can the pen deliver?
April 11, 2019 at 2:54 pm #86961The JMart vs. Fowler talk is only going to get louder.
April 11, 2019 at 2:57 pm #86962
stlcard25ParticipantWinning this game would feel like a total sneaky win. But I wouldn’t complain. Haha. Hope the pen can shut them down for 6 more outs.
April 11, 2019 at 3:02 pm #86963I get the BABIP point, but I am less concerned.
Brebbia is one with a very low .111 BABIP so far. Last season, it was a normal .297 and he still had a good season (0.7 fWAR).
Gant is also at .111 now. Last season, he was at .253. He had a solid 2018 overall (1.2 fWAR).
I didn’t check others as these two are ones who have caught my eye so far in 2019. Of course, they will eventually have higher ERAs than their current 0.00 and 1.00, respectively.
