Walking the pitcher?
July 28, 2019 at 2:55 pm #99648
stlcard25ParticipantSpringer with the double and Hudson is in real trouble. The pen is starting to warm up.

Participantthat’s a bad walk, then a double. you shouldn’t be pitching carefully to the pitcher. I understand if its a typically great hitting pitcher but not the case here. just put it in there.

stlcard25ParticipantStrike one is called ball one to Altuve. Wouldn’t it be nice if it went both ways on the ump squeezing the pitchers?
July 28, 2019 at 2:58 pm #996511982 willie
Participantthat was so big a hit me pitch, that I saw it from here
July 28, 2019 at 2:59 pm #99652
stlcard25ParticipantAltuve with the bomb. Hudson with three fly balls allowed and all left the park so far, I believe. 5-0 Astros. Seems this one might be over.

ParticipantHudson has pitched well and he has been squeezed at time though I consider it more an inconsistent zone since ive seen it both ways. but Hudson has also thrown some flat pitches.
July 28, 2019 at 3:02 pm #99654
stlcard25ParticipantThe Astros have left 6 on base in the game and the Cards are now at 17. Lack of timely hitting can really burn you.
July 28, 2019 at 3:07 pm #99655Just be thankful the Cards are not getting swept. These two teams are night and day apart. The Cards have failed at several basic things today. Also, be thankful the Cards are among mediocre friends in the NL Central.
July 28, 2019 at 3:20 pm #99657I love the Cardinals but we are clearly not in the caliber of elite teams. Mediocre at best.
July 28, 2019 at 3:41 pm #99659Ravelo got a hit!
July 28, 2019 at 3:43 pm #99660Seventeen lob would really make me crazy. Somebodys not gettin’ the rbi. We always called that “choking”. At the plate. Guess they need my sports vusualization technique. You mentally visualize yourself succeeding and then you do it! So I am glad they pulled Hudson before it was completely hopeless. Seems like our starters have a 5 inning brick wall. Thats ok we gotta win the ones we can. Winning the division would be a good goal. Hang in there, Go Cardinals!
July 28, 2019 at 3:44 pm #996611982 willie
Participantwell we score our first run. but that’s it. I think its been clear we aren’t an elite team. but none of the teams in our division are so that helps us. which is surprising to me but it gives us a chance to win this division.
July 28, 2019 at 3:46 pm #996621982 willie
Participantthat should be an error on goldy. sorry that was right there
July 28, 2019 at 3:51 pm #996631982 willie
Participanttwo errors in the inning, not too good.
July 28, 2019 at 4:06 pm #99664dejong needed a shovel to dig that pitch out of the dirt.
July 28, 2019 at 4:10 pm #99665And a fly ball clanks off the heel of Martinez’ glove for a gift double to Springer.
July 28, 2019 at 4:11 pm #99666DeJong, Goldschmidt , Bader and Wieters not heard from yet today
July 28, 2019 at 4:13 pm #996671982 willie
Participantsome pretty shoddy defense today. that’s an error on Martinez. I don’t care what the scorer says. itzs why I don’t trust all these statistics especially fielding and pitching. you get a glove on the ball, the play should almost always be made.
July 28, 2019 at 4:37 pm #99668
stlcard25ParticipantIt’s not an elite team, for sure, but the team they are celebrating this weekend from ’04 was elite and didn’t win it all. Hot streaks happen and that’s the goal for October. The Cards are capable of better play than today. I do think they need some trade tweaks coming up and I hope Mo/Hirsch are able to make those.
July 28, 2019 at 4:50 pm #996692 runs on 9 hits doesn’t sound too good. Just about everybody hit though. One guy didn’t and hasn’t in quite awhile. Gotta wonder how long they will carry a player like that? More hits from the rookie than anybodyelse. I agree we can play better and I think we will! Relief pitching was very good again. Still needing better offense but it is getting better. Go Cardinals!
July 28, 2019 at 5:25 pm #99674If the Cards don’t get more innings from their starters, the pen will degrade down the stretch. Help is needed. Somehow, someway!
July 28, 2019 at 6:30 pm #99681The next couple of weeks will tell us what these Cardinals are made of.

I agree that they need more from the starters.
However, it might take some clearing, but I think a couple of the Memphis guys could help in September. Fernandez for sure and maybe Woodford, Cabrera and Helsley (the last two already on the 40 man of course).
July 28, 2019 at 8:12 pm #99688I think Fernandez and Arozarena are both ready to be called up…starting pitching is the hole.
