13-4. I think Waino may work five, but no more. Let the kids get some experience until we get in trouble.
July 24, 2019 at 8:07 pm #99147Wasn’t it Wainwright that benefited from the ten-run inning in a 12-11 game? 13-4 after 4.
July 24, 2019 at 8:08 pm #99148Wainwright had a quick 4th. Maybe he will go 5. The most intriguing thing about this game now is what might happen when Muñoz bats.
July 24, 2019 at 8:09 pm #99149I’m pretty sure you’re right, Diz, about Wainwright pitching in the Reds game with the 10-spot. It got him off the L hook.
July 24, 2019 at 8:24 pm #99150Whoa! Tuned in at 13-4…now that’s what I’m talking about!
I hope we’ve spotted Waino enough runs to take this one. Through 5 with 106 pitches.
July 24, 2019 at 8:25 pm #99151Wainos on cruise now, hes lookin good. Definitely got the pitches, I’d let him run as long as he lasts. Just don’t overdo it!
July 24, 2019 at 8:25 pm #99152Wainwright pitches much better with a nine-run lead.
July 24, 2019 at 8:25 pm #99153I imagine everybody would!
July 24, 2019 at 8:32 pm #99154This lead should hold obviously, which keeps our streak of winning all of the series since the break. That includes two four-gamers on the road.
This club is feeling it right now!

stlcard25ParticipantWaino wasn’t good at all, but he gutted out 5 innings. Hopefully Mayers can pitch well and go a couple more.
July 24, 2019 at 8:38 pm #99156With this win tonight – if we hang on – and a win in the afternoon game tomorrow we will be tied for 1st with the Cubs.
Imagine that. Aint that a hoot?
July 24, 2019 at 8:51 pm #99157I’m up for that Ratsbuddy!

stlcard25ParticipantWell, Paul Dejong is certainly having himself a game. I’d kind of like to see the Cards do enough to get him another at bat and see if he can get a 4th dinger and 5th extra base hit.
July 24, 2019 at 9:05 pm #99159I’m surprised that 8 extra base hits was a major league record. I wonder if three home runs and a double are a Card record for TB?

Nope…remember Marp’s 3 homers and 2 doubles against the Cubs last year? Mark Whiten also had a 4 HR game.
Edit: Albert had a 3 HR, one double and one single game against the Cubs in 2004. Those are the ones I can quickly find.
July 24, 2019 at 9:07 pm #99161LOL, do they count home runs when a position player is pitching? Osuna actually looks pretty darn good on the mound. If his hitting doesn’t keep him in the majors, he could re-tool as a hurler.
July 24, 2019 at 9:23 pm #99164Sooo we’re not gonna pull him out?
July 24, 2019 at 9:29 pm #99165Well, I guess we only needed the nine that we got in the second. It sure did feel better to have the other 5. But, we didn’t gain on the Cubs, Brewers, Nats, or Phillies.
July 24, 2019 at 9:33 pm #99166Great win for us but gotta remember we were not playing against top tier pitching. Lots of hits, 3hr game, Yowza! So much easier when we got some cushion, Go Cardinals!

July 24, 2019 at 10:35 pm #99171PDJ should’ve taken the “pat me here” sign off his rump before the interview.

ParticipantHas any Cardinal ever hit 5 home runs in one day?
Oh yeah…. Stan did it in a double-header.
July 25, 2019 at 10:46 am #99220Great night for the Cards and Paul. 14 runs is amazing. Now don’t go out today and get held to 4 hits like they have done so much this year. Finish this team off.
July 25, 2019 at 11:44 am #99229Finish this team off.
Right on Larry! That is exactly what excellent teams do….kick the opposite smack dab in the cajonees when you have them down. Your run of the mill teams will misuse these golden opportunities and rest some players and basically take their foot off the peddle, with the thought that maybe they’re win and maybe they won’t. You gotta get while the getting is good…..and boy these tasty viddles are ripe for the picking in Pittsburgh this week.
July 25, 2019 at 3:07 pm #99275Speaking of finishing off opponents…
This is the first sweep of a series of three games or more by the #stlcards in almost two months – since May 31-June 2 (vs. Cubs).
