It’s not too often when a 3 game sweep seems like a must do task, but this may be one of those times. If the Cardinals can successfully execute the broom job with a W against the Braves tomorrow afternoon, they’ll salvage this last homestand before the break by breaking even at 4-4 after that real disappointing 5 game series with the Brewers. Tomorrow’s game is a win or go home scenario…Which, come to think of it, is most likely what 23 of the team’s players will do anyway…

I’m still trying understand the logic of taking the baseball away from Liberatore after only 71 pitches and then handing it to a pitcher who is rapidly proving himself to be entirely unworthy to be called upon when holding a lead under double digits. The Redbird manager added another W to his total, but nothing made sense with that decision.

I noticed Blaze looked good at 3rd. A handful of difficult plays handled nicely. I know he has made a few mistakes but generally seems more athletic than I had expected and makes plays pretty gracefully. As I am frequently reminded, guys can get better. He might, if nobody pushes him off the position in the meantime.

I think I remember that Liberatore wears down late in the season. Maybe trying to get ahead of that. He only went 78 last time, now 70s again.

Well, if he’s not ever allowed to throw more than 70 to 80 pitches, I’d guess that he’ll never attain the ability to take on a substantial workload. But if the goal is to keep him soft and delicate, rub him down with baby oil and wrap him up in cotton…

I just now noticed that, although he had what could justifiably be termed a very lackluster career, Randy Flores was 1-0 to go along with a 1.00 ERA in 9 IP’ed during post-season play with all 9 innings of work performed while wearing a Cardinal jersey.

    Brewers have Cards number.

    Cards have Braves number.

Baseball is a funny game to try to figure out.

I think it was gscottar who pointed out that the Braves have been playing very poorly as of late after a red hot start to the season. Apparently, the Cards caught them at the right time.

Phillies are clearly the better team, gscottar. A little baseball gypsy told me they’d win the NLE back when they were double digits off the pace. Same with the Astros over in the ALC.

You were in on that one early 1TD. That was a very perceptive observation.

We should also keep an eye on those fish from Miami. They have come out of nowhere.

Yeah, gscottar, the Marlins have been playing really well for quite a while now. Since June 1st they’re 26-10. It’s my view that, with the exception of the White Sox, they’ve been the biggest surprise at this stage of the season.
