Here’s to hoping Liberatore can get off the schneid in this one and hurl a gem.
According to the Doppler Radar there does appear to be some lingering scattered showers in the greater St. Louis area. But then again we are several hours from first pitch. Hopefully they will move on and not be a factor tonight.
Din-din today will be Hungry Man’s Fried Chicken dinner, an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew, a piece of Angel Food cake, and a bowl of Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream.

I am feasting today on a Box Combo from Raising Cane’s Chicken. That consists of 4 chicken tenders with sauce, a heaping pile of french fries, cole slaw, and a slice of Texas Toast. I am supplying the Diet Mountain Dew. I don’t usually eat such a big lunch but I am treating myself after a really long week at work.
I think the Cards win 6-3 today with Ivan belting a long one to celebrate his All Star announcement.
With Wetherholt presently being the clear odds on for NL ROY, I found it a little surprising that only 6 of those awards have been presented to a member of the Cardinals. Cardinal players have received the award in consecutive years twice in the years ’54-’55 and then again in ’85-’86, with ’74 and ’01 being the other 2 times. It’s been 25 years since a Redbird was adjudged to be the best rookie of the NL’s freshman class and his rookie season was pretty good. I’ll also say that I challenge anyone to come up with any ROY in either league who placed better numbers into the books than .329/37/130 in his premiere season.

CF N. Church LOver in the AL the Red Sox have reeled off 9 consecutive W’s and have now won 13 of their last 15 games to lift themselves into contention after a catastrophic start to the ’26 season. The Tigers have performed a similar feat to pull to within an entirely competitive 5 games off the pace in the ALC. It just shows to go ya’ that it’s a long grind. Keep playing baseball and don’t pack it in until the arithmetic becomes similar to the fat lady and says it’s over.
Jordan with the 2 out RBI base hit to stretch it to 4-0. Those 2 out RBI’s have always been my favorite flavor.
Looking up at the board I see that the Pirates swept the Brewers in today’s twin bill in Pitt. Both of those games were settled by 1 run.
If I’m going to voice any criticism, it’s only fair that I offer up plenty of praise during a nice performance and Liberatore’s done a first rate job protecting this lead that his teammates have provided him with today. He’s hung a real nice pitching line up on the board after 5 innings of work on only 61 pitches.
And just like that he gets the 4-6-3 GIDP to end the 6th without allowing a run. That was a genuine Big League turn to get 2 on that ground ball.
It’s still a 3 run lead, but why in the heck would go out and get Liberatore after 71 pitches when he has yet to allow a run through 6 innings of work?
The Braves are a soft team. After getting off to a hot start they have wilted. They are not going to win the NL East.
Phillies are clearly the better team, gscottar. A little baseball gypsy told me they’d win the NLE back when they were double digits off the pace. Same with the Astros over in the ALC.
