Imperative that our boys triumph in this first of 5 vs the Crew. If May pitches like he did in his last game vs Milwaukee, we should be in good shape. They battered us around pretty good in our last series in Wisconsin. Time for payback.

Many may recall a Cardinal 5 game sweep of the Mets at Shea Stadium in Sept. of ’82. I clearly remember that 5 game broom job in NY as being a genuine springboard that served to propel the Redbirds to the NLE title down the stretch of that season. I’d have to guess that was the last time the Cardinals have swept a 5 game series.
I forgot to mention that 2 double headers were played during that 5 game series in NY, and they were played on consecutive days. As another member of the gang is fond of saying, “Back when men were men.” There’s another part of that saying that I can’t readily recall but, it’s something to do with frightened animals of the ovine variety…
With the 4th of July in the rear view mirror and now situated at several games past the half way mark of the season, I couldn’t help but to think how fast this summer is flying by. The summertime has always been by far my favorite of the 4 seasons. Fish are jumping, cotton’s high, I’m not freezing my backside off shoveling the driveway, and the baseball action is at wide open, full throttle. In any case, I think just about everyone notices that time seems to blow right by you like a Linda Rondstadt fastball when you’re having fun and these kids have been fun to watch. In any case, I’ll enjoy it while I can. That’s all you can do, really.

Currently the Doppler Radar shows all clear in the midwest. I expect this game will be played with no problems. But, as I’ve said twice before, when it gets hot and humid during the summer those little popup thunderstorms can occur in a moments notice. We had them on both Saturday and Sunday.

C Pedro Pages RThese Brewers really have a balanced attack with the bats as their lineup features 4 players who’ve collected 40 or more RBI’s. I won’t even go into the arms that they throw at the opposition. In any case, I’m guessing that none of these 5 games will appear anywhere in the bargain aisle.
I’m not as high on Herrera as some fans are. But that’s just my take. His batting stance, to me, is extraordinary and it looks like he’s going to smash the ball far and away each AB. But that doesn’t happen as often as expected.
Lots happening with Cardinals pitching. Dustin May will be held to around 65 pitches today due to his workload over the last few weeks. That, plus a doubleheader tomorrow, means a lot of coverage concerns.

On June 21, he went 2.0 innings. Then they skipped a start. Then, in his last outing, he went 0.2 innings.
That is some workload.
Who’s the brains of the Brewers organization? They’re consistently doing what I can only hope Bloom can do. Same goes for the Guardians. They appear to have an amazing brain trust, also. And as long as I’m rambling, I should also mention the Devil Rays. And there must be teams that I am unintentionally overlooking. For example, the current White Sox, who, to quote the Rev. Jesse Jackson, have recently gone ‘From the outhouse to the penthouse’, at least for the time being. Regardless, if you’re a White Sox fan, you’re diggin’ it.
Then there is a whole bevy of teams who can’t win without spending exorbitant amounts of cash, or handing out PED’s like it was Halloween candy, or both.
In the end I want the games to be played for no other reason than to entertain fans by teammates and opposing players playing to bring out the best in each other.
I wonder if Dustin May’s foot hurt as much as Jordan Walker’s fingers hurt after he got hit by a pitch.
“Haha!…”What workload?” Can you imagine how labor intensive it is to load up the tremendous amount of weight associated with all the paper that makes up $12,000,000? You’d undoubtedly have to toil for days loading it all onto a pallet…Then you’d have to operate a forklift through city traffic in order to deliver it to the bank! May’s obviously all tuckered out…
In regards to Herrera, I’m not entirely disappointed with his bat as he’s surprisingly crossed HP more than any other Cardinal in ’26. He also leads the team in OBP. The problem is that names spelled Wetherholt and Church are both sitting well above Ivan in SLG. So, I’d say there’s no question that the team needs him to generate quite a bit more power production. I expect that he’ll eventually do so and this evening would be the ideal time for him to begin loading up on some power numbers such as taters, RBI’s and TB’s. All I’ll say about his performance behind HP, is that I’m happy he’s hitting as the DH tonight so that there’s a chance that the Brewers may not resemble the 110 mph, three abreast, rolling start at Indy every time they reach base.

Perhaps it was meant that he will be limited to 65 innings due to lack of work load, not being stretched out as usual.
Still all clear weather wise. Some scattered showers in southern Missouri and southern Illinois but the greater metro St. Louis area appears to be dry as 007’s martini.

I guess these days if you pitch a complete game then you are considered having a heavier-than-normal workload.
That CG shutout in which May was irresponsibly allowed to work 101 pitches is obviously proof positive that daring to work even a solitary pitch over the magic number 100 is the proverbial death knell for any pitcher’s arm…In his very next turn, he was touched up for 6 ER’s, on 6 hits, which included 2 taters in 2.0 IP’ed. Then, in his next turn, he was nearly taken out by a stinger missile before he was able to safely escape the 1st inning. In my estimation, the magic number should be lowered to at least 91. Or, check that…86.
It’s the preparation. Wouldn’t that be great if a pitcher could just do a few jumping jacks and then head to the hill to grab the baseball and go at it……you know, maybe that’s part of the problem with injuries and short performances. I bet Dizzy Dean and Bob Gibson didn’t conduct half of the preparations that modern pitchers endure.
Carlton’s routine consisted of plunging his left hand, wrist and arm into a large bucket filled with sand and rice over and over again to not only develop arm strength, but also to toughen up the skin of his fingers to get a better grip and sharper spin on that devastating slider.
