July 5, 2026 at 8:57 pm #312056I haven’t taken as much as a single glance at the voting all season, but I’d say some of these young Cardinal players should probably be honored with a plane ticket to Philadelphia early next week.
July 5, 2026 at 8:59 pm #312057Thanks, BW. I thought maybe the makeup game had things off kilter.
July 5, 2026 at 9:12 pm #312058Quick trivia:
– I was the first player born in the 1990’s to hit a ML home run. Who am I?
– I was the first player born in the 2000’s to hit a ML home run. Who am I?
July 5, 2026 at 9:52 pm #312060That’s a mind bender, Pugs. For the 90’s I’ll just go by the arithmetic and guess B. Harper? For the 00’s I’ll guess a player who’s been around for under 10 seasons and guess, Vlad Jr? As soon as I key this in I’m going to look it up because, if I don’t, I won’t be able to sleep thinking about it…Haha!
Edit…Not even close.

July 5, 2026 at 10:17 pm #312063I agree that Fermin may not be the answer. In fact, it appears that he is definitely not the answer. But the alternative has not yet emerged. My apologies to those who favor Blaze Jordan. I just don’t see it that way. It’s up to Bloom to find us a third baseman.
July 5, 2026 at 10:27 pm #312065Not bad guesses, TD.
– Starlin Castro for the 90’s and Luis Garcia of the Nats for the 2000’s.

July 5, 2026 at 10:30 pm #312067Yeah, I looked it up, Pugs. My brain would have exploded if I’d spent too much time thinking about that one…Haha!
July 6, 2026 at 12:58 am #312072I know a lot of people are loving Ollie now but why would he bring in Svanson with the score 3-3. We are 8-13 in games decided by three runs or less in games he has pitched and he has an ERA oer 6.60. I agee that Ollie has improved as a manager butEJCEC IS THE ONLY RELIEF PITCHER WITH MORE than 2 innings the last 3 days and Stanek the only one with more than one the last two days.
And when are going to send Svanson back to Memphis bring up Mathews or Dobbins
and sent Libby the the pen.-

July 6, 2026 at 6:57 am #312075Continuing theme that there aren’t a lot of great choices in this bullpen.
We will probably see Dobbins to start one of the DH games on Tuesday as the 27th man. Maybe if he pitches better than the last time he was given a start it will help his case. He hasn’t been dominating lately at Memphis. (11 ER in last four starts totaling 19 IP for a 5.21 ERA.)

July 6, 2026 at 8:40 am #312087I was unfair to the bullpen as they had a very good week. Every reliever except Graceffo (5.40) had an ERA of 3.38 or better. Five were unscored upon.
Both of Svanson’s runs Sunday were unearned due to errors by Fermin and Walker.
Liberatore did not pitch well on Sunday, but he had a very good start against the Braves last Tuesday for an ERA of 3.60 for the week. He needs more of the former kind of games, though.

July 6, 2026 at 9:23 am #312095Something like what happened with Liberatore is about what I expected. Yeah, he stayed in the game through the 5th inning. But he put down much traffic on the base paths that he could have gotten heavily scored upon in every inning. But somehow he cheated the devil each time. Libby will be a one or two inning reliever someday. I wish him the best.

I expect he will bounce around continuing to get hired to start for quite a few years.
July 6, 2026 at 11:33 am #312104Sort of reminds me of when Wacha went 6-7, 4.76 his last year with StL, his age 27 season. Many folks (including the front office) were ready to move on. 10 years later, and he is still starting in MLB. In fact, Wacha is an AL All-Star this year. (Liberatore is 26 years old now.)

July 6, 2026 at 2:45 pm #312111Well, that’s all true, BW, however Michael had not only featured several outstanding seasons of work, but had also been subjected to arm troubles. Neither of those facts apply in the case of Liberatore who, in my estimation, is a younger version of Matz in the sense that he doesn’t possess the sort of temperament needed to pitch with any consistent success as a member of a Big League rotation.
July 6, 2026 at 2:49 pm #312112I guess Wacha is more like Matz, then, in the early part of their careers. The latter had several very good seasons in the Mets rotation.

July 6, 2026 at 7:21 pm #312139Well, I’d say everyone has their own view of things BW, but in my view, during 7 seasons as a Cardinal, Wachau was 59-39 with a 3.91 ERA in a little over 850 innings of work while, in 6 seasons as a Met, Matz went 31-41 with an ERA of 4.35 in a little under 580 innings of work. I’m seeing a W/L swing of 30 baseball games in 170 decisions. I’d have to characterize the performance of the latter as lackluster at the very best.
