Libby vs the 2026 Atlanta Braves is akin to James “Buster” Douglas squaring off against Mike Tyson……..wait….didn’t Buster bust-up and knock out the great Mike Tyson? Well if Buster got the job done then so can Libby. We’ll certainly see how Libby handles pressure, as its as plain as the nose on Jimmy Durante’s face that if he tosses another clunker again tonight that he’s knocked himself right on out of the rotation. In an upset special, I’m calling this one 6-4 Cards with Libby going 6 frames strong and Georgia native Jordan Walker lifting a towering tater high up into the steel rafters in left.

Still waiting for Rat’s weather report, as I never plan my Cardinals viewing pleasure without getting the weather lowdown from the Stan Musial of meteorology himself. Thanks Rat!

Those Bravos were looking as good as any club until the last few weeks. They have stumbled on to a stretch of mediocrity.

Our TV announcer Mr Caray worked for the Braves for awhile, as did papa Skip. Skip was the St Louis Hawks announcer and went to Atlanta with them in the late ‘60s and remained there. Chipper is back in the Midwest though and we are happy to have him.

Hot weather, playing an upper tier team, a hitter’s park, lazy sweepers and hanging curve balls = a likely loss for us. I’ll predict 6-2 Atlanta. Hope I get proven wrong.

Our people have been talking Libby up for a good 4 years since he first came over in a deal, and lord knows we need a decent lefty on the starting staff, but it’s just not happening. If he could limit the other team to 4 runs and just eat some innings and go 6 or 7 for us, I’d say stay here–but 4 innings, leaving men on base, and out of the game more often than not at that point is not going to cut it at this level. We may need to move on. We need a solid seven inning man.
Trouble with that last statement, is –with who?

At this point atmospheric conditions look quite favorable for tonight’s contest. However, when it’s this hot and humid – low 90s and 70% humidity here in SW Indiana – those popup storms and showers can occur at literally a moments notice. For example, I was in Evansville today and the sky was starting to get dark so I headed back home. Anyway, stay tuned.

Din-din today is a Chicken Teriyaki sandwich and five (5) chocolate chip cookies from Subway, some baked beans, and an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew.

Skip’s dad Harry also did play by play for the StL Hawks, Bikemike. I recall him being the primary guy on KMOX radio broadcasts of those games for several seasons prior to the move to ATL. He was his same entertaining and enthusiastic Harry Caray self while calling the NBA action. Heck, I used to enjoy watching the Cubbies TV broadcasts on WGN just to hear Harry’s one of a kind input. Harry could call the action of a sandclock and make it fun…

Bling should be posting up the lineup shortly. It’s the best vs lh pitching.

Mike, the Braves also have a famous personality that goes by that name.

Yeah, Harry was one of a kind. Never heard him on Hawks broadcasts. In Casper, WY as a kid in the ‘60s I could get San Francisco Warriors game with Bill King and Hank Greenwald.

Harry should be in the Cardinals Hall of Fame. Why he is not puzzles me. He was Cardinal baseball to millions of midwestern, western and southern fans for 25 years.

Well, one thing is for certain about this game tonight.

With Liberatore going I guarantee you the Braves will not score in the top half of the 1st inning.

That’s one thing you can take to the bank!

Word has it that the scoreboard read 1-0 during pregame fielding drills and BP whenever Rickie was in the lineup. I’ve slowly come to believe that Liberatore’s the antithesis of that rumor.

Those Braves uni’s are a great look. As a kid collecting cards I loved those Milwaukee Braves uni’s with the tomahawk. They were my second favorite behind our classic birds on bat.

Then the Braves watered them down taking off the tomahawk, and eventually went through a lot of changes before going back to the classic style.

This is my first look at this year’s Brave’s team, so I don’t at all know much about them, but during the first couple of months of the season, every time I glanced at the standings it looked like they were a genuine steamroller. My preseason guess was that the Phillies would win the NLE and I still think they’re the far superior team in that division. Obviously, I’m hoping the Cardinals can contribute to the recent decrease in ATL’s lead in the NLE.

There has to be some correctable mechanical flaw in Libby’s delivery with all those pitches up and away to righties. Seems like that can be fixed.

Well, what do you know? Liberatore actually made a couple of pitches when he had to and escaped that 2nd inning jam. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that. Maybe the worm has turned.

Libby did indeed impressive in escaping that second inning jam. His issue as we all know is not going deep into games. Inconsistency.

I worked a couple of Braves game early when they played out here. Was outside the visitors clubhouse and saw them in the tunnel. I tell you, Ozzie Albies is really built. He looks like a short running back.

Din-din here was leftovers. A chicken and vegetable mix along with a big tossed salad that included avocado and salmon.
