Yeah, Bikemike, I sure don’t have a direct line to the big guy or pretend to know the eternal order of things, but I happen to believe we’ll all find out the genuine reality before too long.
No-no still intact through 5. Trying to think who tossed our last gem? Bobby Forsch maybe? And our last perfect game probably dates back 100 years.
I believe Bud Smith pitched the last Cardinal no-hitter. I read up on that start recently…he threw 134 pitches against the same Padre team that roughed him up in his last start.
Before that, it was Jose Jimenez outduelling the Big Unit in 1999.
Just did a little reading on the topic and Bob Forsch tossed 2 no-no’s(1978 & 1983) for us. The Cards have pitched a total of 10 no hitters, but no perfect games. Bob’s brother Ken pitched a no-no for Houston. I would guess no brothers have equalled that feat. Off the top of my head, I believe one of the Reuschel brothers tossed one for the cubbies…. .probably Rick and not Paul……I think Phil Niekro hurled one, but not his brother who’s first name presently eludes me…….the Perry brothers? I bet Gaylord tossed one, but not Jim…….what other brothers?…..oh Daffy tossed one for us, but not Dizzy……you’d think it would be the other way around.
Joe was Phil Niekro’s brother.

Yes, Joe……thanks Jnevel. Thinking about all of these brother pitching combos from the 70’s and 80’s……you just don’t see ML brothers pitching any longer. A bunch 40 years ago with the likes of the Perry’s, Niekro’s, Reuschel’s and Forsch’s.
They sure are, Bling. Matthews gives up a little squibber along the 3rd baseline that Gorman has to put in his hip pocket to begin the 7th. I hope that doesn’t mentally screw up Matthews….we’ll find out quick enough.
Matthews temporarily escapes a 1 out runners on 2nd & 3rd pickle here in the 7th by inducing a short fly to right where the Giants smartly opted not to test Walker’s cannon of an arm, but then walks the next batter to load them up……and Matthews night is a wrap as he’s exiting this ballgame….very nice job by the young Redbird.
Bruihl center stage for St. Louis facing McCray……..McCray grounds out to short and this Bruihl fellow has been sneaky good this past month. Now let’s tack on some insurance tallies and get this kud rookie a big fat “W”.
Now that the no-no’s no longer a no-no, this game won’t have any significant impact anywhere in the league, but in some more meaningful baseball action the White Sox are going to remain atop the ALC as they place a 7-3 W up on the board in CLE. The Cubbies are providing some help to the Phillies as they lead the Braves 7-3 at the end of 7. And the Padres are seeking their 8th consecutive W as they lead the Rockies 6-1 in the 5th at DEN. SD looks to be amping it up at the right time and it’s my guess they could be the NLWC team that could stir up some trouble in the post-season.

Redbirds don’t scoreboard in the 7th. Cards still lead 2-1 as Stanek trots out to the hill to pitch the 8th.My favorite Dean story was when Dizzy threw a 1 hitter in the first game of a doubleheader. His brother Paul (Daffy) threw a no hitter in the night cap. Afterwards Dizzy said that if he had known Paul was going to throw a no-no he would have as well. Ha!
Stanek surrenders a base hit and free pass after whiffing the first 2 Giants in the crucial 8th inning…..let’s stay with the action shall we?
Hill on 3-2 lines a laser that’s speared by Gorman at 3rd……whew! I think Matthews may have just expelled the biggest sigh of relief in the house on that one.
Seymour on for the Giants in the bottom of the 8th……and I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing more runs tacked on to the Cardinal slim advantage.

Those last couple innings took years off my life. The pitch that got through Bernal in the 9th could have been a disaster with the runners moving up. But the laser beam throw from Winn ended it. A fantastic performance by a bunch of young players.
Well, tonight’s game is the start of W streak. It’d be nice to play some good baseball for these final 11 games and close out the ’26 season a few games above sea level. Give these kids a promising outlook for ’27 and all.
Skubal works 7 or more innings for consecutive turns as the lefty pitches the Dodgers to a 4-1 W over the Reds. They need him to hit stride heading into Oct. Both Ohtani and Freeman are a little skint-up but they should be ready to go before long. In any case, the Dodgers are loaded and still have Little Eddie to pick up the slack…
