The top of the 9th sure went sideways.
September 12, 2026 at 11:06 pm #318764Two out two run dong by Grichuk in the 9th.
Cards lose 6-5.
Another tough loss.

September 13, 2026 at 1:43 am #318766This…just…keeps…happening….
Walks and poor control by relievers are just killing us.
September 13, 2026 at 4:59 am #318767That Grichuk fella (remember him?) just ruined my Sunday morning breakfast. That Hjerpe fella (the one hunkered in the back of the dog house) also gave me a serious case of the hips.

stlcard25ParticipantThe bullpen has been weak all year and I feel like it was the front office plan to ensure it ended up that way. We need multiple relievers at the back end of games to emerge or be brought in. Hopefully the gamble with forcing the team to be bad pays off with a decent draft slot.

LOL. You’ve been clamoring for a rebuild for years. The Cardinals finally enter one, and you want it over with.
September 13, 2026 at 8:47 am #318779Maybe the biggest takeaway is that Hjerpe is not as ready as we thought.
I wonder if Grichuk’s homer was catchable and Scott’s leap misjudged.
On the other hand, the O scored 5 vs a good team. The lineup has exciting potential.
September 13, 2026 at 9:33 am #318781I think O’Brien is 30 isn’t he?
He’s a little old for the rebuild and I’m not sure he’s really cut out to close but maybe a very valuable setup man?
Do we think he’s traded or back for more?
September 13, 2026 at 11:44 am #318783Potatoes has to show value in order to be traded. The Bullpen as of end of Friday had a 5.24 ERA ( or somewhere close) after the break. I think a lot of it is usage for some. That’s not on Oli because our starters have innings limits or don’t go very far.
I was at the game yesterday. Wasn’t a sellout and the heat was real. Women passes out in front of me after going for nachos with her Hubble earlier. When they build busch 4 can they just have a dome. Left when Bernal homered to beat the metro traffic. Thankfully I did.

They did need to do a rebuild. Mo’s way sucked because we were stuck in mediocrity with a weak farm.
I think brighter days are ahead but that doesn’t mean it is enjoyable to watch the team lose. Now if Bloom decides to turn this rebuild into a perpetual rebuild then I will be the first to decry it. We need to be looking at 2028 as the year to be a contender, not 2030.

Are you thinking that in the off season after 2027 Bloom should start bringing in top level FA talent? I personally think that whether we compete and when depends on what the system produces, and when. Any FAs are to fill in around the edges short term. I do think Bloom will have to do some trading to even things out. That could commence this winter.
