Pretty sure this is what some of you wanted coming out of the break. Will make it easier to sell the limited amount of tradable assets we have. Lol
Yeah if they roll over against Colorado then we need to definitely get rid of Matz, Fedde, Helsley and Maton.
July 19, 2025 at 7:33 pm #287691It’s my view that there comes a point in many failed endeavors in which those that plan and execute the venture have to concede that they’re genuinely embarrassed by the performance and effort put forth in order to achieve a particular goal. I think it serves to demonstrate that those that were charged with the planning and execution of the undertaking not only care about the quality of the performance, but also possess enough character and fortitude to acknowledge their shortcomings. I don’t at all expect anything remotely close to something like that from the present leadership of the Cardinals.
July 19, 2025 at 7:52 pm #287693Just checked the score.
9-0 Arizona after five innings.
Once again they can’t score.
They can’t score because they don’t have anybody that can hit.
And some of you think pitching is our #1 problem?????
July 19, 2025 at 7:58 pm #287694The ’27 Yankees paired up with Elvis couldn’t score enough to bail out the recent pitching performances of this team.
July 19, 2025 at 7:59 pm #287695We could use 5 Jake Westbrooks.
July 19, 2025 at 8:01 pm #287696And some of you think pitching is our #1 problem?????
No Rat…I think the whole damn apple is rotten from the core to the outside. Top to bottom they need thrown out.
July 19, 2025 at 8:04 pm #287697They play in Colorado next week. The ultimate hitters park.
The over/under on total runs scored in the three games is 8.5.
Which one you got, the over or under?
July 19, 2025 at 8:06 pm #287698Well a 9-0 score indicates both are bad. But on the season, we are 13th in runs scored per game, and 9th in runs allowed per game (9th worst). So our pitching is worse than our hitting.
And a good pitching team with so-so hitting can compete. But a good hitting team with so-so pitching usually won’t contend. You want to build around pitching.
July 19, 2025 at 8:08 pm #287699Jake Westbrook was a first rate draft horse by today’s standards.
July 19, 2025 at 8:13 pm #287700Walker looks completely lost in the OF and at the plate. Is it time to give up and move on from him or do they give him more ‘runway’ next year?
Personally, I’ve given up on both Walker and Gorman – seems like they’ve had plenty of time to show that they are more than below average at the ML level.
I’m not really sure what to expect in 2026. Should we EXPECT a playoff team or is that too much to ask of this roster?
July 19, 2025 at 8:15 pm #287701The last time the Redbirds looked this bad they handed the manager a two year extension.
July 19, 2025 at 8:22 pm #287702I’d have to say that Gorman’s been by far a bigger disappointment than Walker. I was really impressed at his power potential during his first two seasons and was reasonably confident that he’s continue to improve to a point where you’d expect 30 to 40 HR’s a seaon to come from his bat. In any case, he simply never came close to panning out after about the midway point of the ’23 season.
July 19, 2025 at 8:31 pm #287703Yeah, I had expectations that Gorman would have numbers similar to Crow-Armstrong by now. And I thought Walker would be much farther along as well.
Good to see our old buddy Woodford latching on somewhere. Heck, he might be better than two of our stooges.
July 19, 2025 at 8:32 pm #287704Dave McKay still in a coaches’ box. He has been around.
Corbin Carroll is finding his sweet stroke.
July 19, 2025 at 8:35 pm #287705Back to Walker – he just looks timid at the plate. He does not go out and attack pitches. He sort of stays back and lets the pitch “play” him.
It seems his confidence is shot.
I think back to years ago and Orlando Cepeda. Walker reminds me a bit of Cepeda with his physical style. But man, Cepeda would go after pitches on the outer half and attack them, and really turn on an inside pitch. And he could stay on the breaking ball. Walker just does not do any of that. He sort of flails at pitches – pulls off them and loses a lot of power.
July 19, 2025 at 8:42 pm #287706A 10-1 lead with two outs in the 9th, and you are changing pitchers???
July 19, 2025 at 8:45 pm #287709Carlson
Walker
Gorman
NootbaarNone of the above guys that we were counting on 2-3 years ago have really done much.
Winn
Burleson
ScottThe jury is still out on these three.
Flaherty
Hudson
Reyes
LiberatoreWe thought we had the makings of a pretty solid rotation for a long time. But none of these have done much.
Why is it all of the players we count on usually fizzle out on us???
July 19, 2025 at 9:03 pm #287710Rats I think most if not all were severely over hyped and over rated by the organization! They had people believing these guys could really play and they couldn’t! Sadly the ones that really could play, like Arozarena and Gallen were traded away! This organization needs major changes to succeed and I don’t think we are gonna get many anytime soon!
July 19, 2025 at 9:10 pm #287711Agree, bikemike. When he first came up, he looked confident and fearless. Then, he got humbled by the down and away breaking ball.
I hoping that in a couple of years,
Westerholdt will be at 2B, Donovan will be at 3B, Bernal will be catching, maybe Baez will be in the outfield, and VS II will be closer to his ceiling. If the pitching shows up, this team should be able to contend. Lots of changes to come before 2027, though.July 19, 2025 at 9:20 pm #287713Yeah, Steve, all teams make mistakes in the area of who they choose to keep or discard, but what bothers me is when they make a bad mistake and continue to claim that water isn’t wet…At any rate, I was reminded just the other day while looking at some baseball stuff that the Expos gave up on a 25 year old Randy Johnson. You’d think that they could simply look at the 6’10” lefty and know what they had…Haha!
July 19, 2025 at 9:57 pm #287714Well, now what?
July 19, 2025 at 9:59 pm #287715
jj-cf-stlParticipantI like Burleson as Gormans career comp, over the Walker choice. Well wait, Walker can’t hit righties or lefties, and Burly hasn’t hit lefties since he’s been up. And that’s where it falls apart, because Gormans career handedness splits both start with a .7?? Maybe balanced splits are out, and platoon bats are in? What will they think of next?
July 19, 2025 at 10:09 pm #287717Well if forced to choose I will take the guy with the 810 OPS over the guy with the 718 OPS.
Regardless this team has quit and the sell off might as well begin. It is about time to que the Jim Mora playoff speech because it looks like we are going to soon be battling to stay ahead of the Pirates.
Meanwhile the Cubs now have the best record in the NL. The whole situation is revolting.
July 19, 2025 at 10:13 pm #287718I know what I’ll do, Bling…I’ve been a Redbird fan for a little more than a minute or two, but I’m first and foremost a fan of the game. So I can always take solace in the fact that there’s baseball being played in other places besides StL. It worked for me all through the 70’s and 90’s and I’m reasonably confident that it’ll continue to do so. Right now there’s a good race going on in the NLC between the Cubbies and Brewers. It’s my view that those two teams hate each other and are currently embroiled in a rivalry that is substantially more intense than the Cardinals/Cubs, so it should be fun and interesting to watch them trade blows for the last 2 months of the regular season. The Cubs won again today over the Red Sox and the Brewers try to keep pace and lead the Dodgers by 2 runs at LA in the late innings.
July 19, 2025 at 10:21 pm #287720The Marlins now sit atop the Braves by 3 full games in the NLE. They’re that team from Miami…
