Pallante getting Pallante’d in the top of the fourth with ground balls finding holes, a dribbler that goes for an infield single, then a pop up off the end of the bat that falls into no-man’s land in right. Honestly, he’s pitching just fine except for the walk and hanger in the first. But terrible results. 6 runs now.
In general – ground balls and all the other poor contact Pallante induces is a good thing. But sometimes that poor contact manifests itself into good results through the randomness you speak of JJ.
Well, that one was crushed. Again not a bad pitch. Up and in at the top of the zone. But everything hit in the air this year off Pallante goes over the wall.
The home run rate is highly concerning. I think he’d be a very good starter if he had a normal rate. But I’m not sure if he can get there or not. It seems fluky.
Andre is running around a 25% HR to Flyball rate now. Average is 10%. I looked up the record and it’s like 79% so Andre has room to grow!
Their whip problems can be occassionaly be solved by DP’s to end an inning, but HR’s, and the randomness of BAbip are constantly working against a high whip.
The good news tonight is they didn’t get Walker out once at AA.
The bad news is the game was canceled due to rain.
These Cardinals had a lot of success against last place teams this season prior to getting blanked in Pittsburgh and now tonight’s game against DC. I was looking forward to playing the Rockies, but if the latest trend holds sway, we may be in trouble when the fellas travel to COL. later this month.
My goodness…I just checked and the Rockies are 50 games under. That’s 50 games under, not lost 50 games…We’re almost a week shy of the break.
In regards to the All Star break…Legend has it that when Harold Reynolds led the league with 60 SB’s in ’87, he received a phone call. When he answered the call, Reynolds said the voice of the caller on the other end sounded just like a player that he has spoken with in person many times before…The caller said, “Rickey had 60 by the BREAK!”…And then hung up…Haha!
The Brewers are making a hard charging run at the Cubbies as they collect their 4th consecutive W to pull to within 1.5 off the pace in the NLC. I hope they pry Crowbar and the Cubs out of 1st place by the break.
Thanks for the Pozo comments. we have a good assortment of backup catcher candidates for next season. We need a starter, of course, but I doubt Bill will let Bloom spend $80 Million to try again.
Next, what happened to Pallante’s death pitch we heard about this spring?
The team continues to be consistently inconsistent.
I don’t see a superstar anywhere in the roster – the kind of guy that can just carry a team for stretches of the season.
We have some good players – and you need a lot of those to fill out a roster – but we have zero big time bats or starters. So, .500 is what you get.
Stating the obvious now and then serves as a reminder… Another factor is that it makes it more difficult for them to make trades.
