jj-cf-stlParticipantMatz for Gray. There’s a reason I’m sure but who knows.
July 8, 2025 at 10:34 pm #286799The Blue Jays are up to their old tricks as they’re now routinely drawing upwards of 40K fans in Toronto to watch them play baseball as they’ve now vaulted past the Yankees to take over 1st place in the ALE. They won tonight for their 10th consecutive W and sit in the catbird’s seat with a 3.5 game lead in that division. I mentioned not too long ago that the Blue Jays were able to draw 4M fans for 3 consecutive seasons during the early 90’s. That’s a lot fans for a team that plays in Canada and those attendance figures are right in the same class as those of the Yankees and Dodgers. In any case, if you field a first rate team, baseball fans on the moon will buy a ticket to see them play.

jj-cf-stlParticipantAnother lefty HR
4-2 StLJuly 8, 2025 at 10:57 pm #286802As recently as ’22 the Cardinals were desperate for a bat that could generate some production from the left side. Some may recall that Johnny addressed that deficiency with Corey Dickerson.
July 8, 2025 at 11:07 pm #286803I still don’t know much about him, but I’ve seen quite a bit of chatter lately concerning the guy named Bloom. It got me to wondering if Johnny’s traveling secretary still works here. The one with the nicely coiffed and colored curly hair who’s named Girsch. Has he been seen or heard from this year or is he now filed under bygone?

July 8, 2025 at 11:17 pm #286805I was talking to a friend about some baseball stuff over the holiday weekend and we both agreed that you had to like a guy who’s listed at 5’11” 285 lbs. and still managed to hang 247 W’s up on the board during the course of a well traveled 21 year career. The game can always use a guy like Bartolo Colon.
July 8, 2025 at 11:23 pm #286806I also just now noticed that Bartolo wore #40 for eleven different teams. No kidding. I’m not sure how to look that up but it almost has to be a record.
July 8, 2025 at 11:28 pm #286807Cardinals grab the W over the most mundane team in baseball to hover at 6 games over even. Could be a lot worse I guess.
July 8, 2025 at 11:32 pm #286808Box says 20,658 fans for tonight’s game. I say about 658 of them weren’t afraid to get a little wet.
July 9, 2025 at 10:10 am #2868251TD, I have always thought the most mundane teams are the Marlins, Rays, and Dbacks. The reason being is that those teams don’t usually draw that well (at least the two in FL don’t) and a majority of the fans that attend those games are snowbirds and are rooting for the visiting team. I think MLB should restrict Florida and Arizona to spring training but they didn’t ask me.
At least DC has some history with baseball. I think Walter Johnson pitched for the Senators. He managed them also.
July 9, 2025 at 10:12 am #286826I’m not sure but I imagine the reason the Cards bumped Gray up to start last night is so they could squeeze another start out of him before the all star break. I still think it is a crime that he didn’t start any of our 7 games against the Cubs.
