Carter, that was a bit before my time but I think that was the game that someone asked Casey Stengel what he thought of the new stadium and he said “well it holds the heat well.”

1td, I think that W logo the Nationals use is very similar to the logo of the old Washington Senators.

You’re probably right, gscottar. But still…everytime I go to pick up a prescription for myself or Mrs. 1TD, I’m subjected to that loopty-loop W logo. Then after making my way through the long line to the counter, I’m almost always told that it isn’t ready yet and I’ll have to come back in an hour or two. I just don’t like those Nationals…Or Walgreens for that matter!

I remember it as being a big event to help to jump start the new Busch Memorial Stadium

You betcha! It was St. Louis’ Bicentenial birthday and the completion of the Gateway arch as well

My grandma had not been to a ballgame since before the Brownies left, around ’47. I drug her out of the house to see the new stadium and man, when she saw the bird fly around the scoreboard after a homer she squeeled with delight!

She was surely St. Louis proud that day.

Arenado was a fool not to opt out when he had the chance. He was a bigger fool not to accept a trade to Houston. He could be in the WS this year and the next two. He has no chance to see hardware with the Cardinals. I think he was hoping that the Dodgers would beg for him. Not since he’s washed up, so he got what he deserved. Walker should have been traded a year ago but the Cardinals still think he will be a power hitter. Never going to happen. First of all you have to be a hitter before you become a power hitter. They should trade him at the deadline.

Yeah, things can change in a hurry, but the Astros have jumped out to a reasonably comfortable lead in the ALW and are presently palying .600 baseball.

Yeah, Carter, that spectacular Redbird happily fluttering back and forth across the scoreboard immediately after a tater was a really big thing back then. And while he was flying around up there he’d happily say, “Tweet…Tweet….Tweet”…He was way ahead of his time insofar as the Twitter thing…And the crowd loved him!

Pro-tip Dom. Go thru the drive thru as early in the morning as possible.

    What? No weather report.
Based on the fact that the tarp is currently on the field I’m going to assume this one has a delayed start.

Yeah, I sometimes venture using the drive-thru, KCB. I once idled thru a half tank of fuel…All jokes aside, any trip to Walgreen’s simply isn’t my cup of tea. What I really love is when I mistakenly make the trip when they’re closed from 1:30 to 2 pm for lunch…Haha! Who in the heck waits until 1:30 to eat lunch?…Walgreen’s does!

But it was a weak immitation of the Huston Astrodome, Dom. Except for the iron posts that often wrecked my view, I liked the old park on Grand and Dodier.

Quick story: Years later I visited the Boys club that replaced the old park. There was a little old man that greeted us at the door. He was telling my group about the club and his exploits as a boxer.

I really wasn’t paying that much attention to his story, but later realized the little man was Henry Armstrong, once holder of the lightweight, feather and welter belts simultaneasly!

He was defeated by Barney Ross when he tried move up to Middleweight. I had seen the movie about it, but didn’t know of Henry’s connection with St. Louis

OMG the stories he could have told me about Marciano and Robinson, et al! I really blew that one.

It hammered down rain at our house for a little more than an hour earlier this evening, but it’s now stopped roughly 20 miles west of downtown. Still cloudy though.

I only made one trip to Sportsman’s Park and that memory is a vague one, Carter I do recall that the players exited the clubhouse and descended to field level from a metal staircase. I still remember the sound of all those cleats clanging on that staircase as they made their way to the dugout area. Can anyone else remember that particular layout?

The radio broadcast has a bar stool discussion w/Gibson, Torre and Shannon from 2005. I’m glad the game is delayed.

That was a substantial rain delay of well over 2 hours. It seems like the weather’s impacted quite a few games this season, but I can’t recall a first pitch being delayed as long as this one has tonight.

I used to do that quite a bit, but I don’t think I’ve watched a replay since the ’22 season. During the TLR era it was almost a routine anytime the Cardinals had placed a W on the board.

Gray gone actually after 5. I don’t like that call unless Gray wasn’t feeling 100%
