At least the Cards and particularly Burly have had Skenes number, but it won’t be an easy task tomorrow with Skenes season ERA being less than half of Pallantes.
No, it certainly won’t be anywhere near to a bargain. He’s really good, but at least the Redbirds may stand a sliver of a chance seeing as how they’re not having to face the dominant sort of lefty that entirely throttled them in Monday’s game…
Just a random thought, but while looking at some baseball stuff that was primarily centered around pitchers and CG’s, the thought occured to me that since Bob Gibson accumulated 255 CG’s during his spectacular 17 year career, shouldn’t he also be credited with saves for each of the CG’s of which he was also the winning pitcher of decision? I mean he was, in a genuine sense, his own closer…And the same could be said for many other great SP’ers. Those last 3 outs to end a baseball game and preserve a victory are often times the most difficult ones to record and I think it’s only fair that Bob and many others should get credit for a save in games of which they stayed out there and worked the pitcher’s mound in the 9th or beyond to record those last three tough outs and close out the game…Maybe Manfred will look into it and tweak a new save rule into the books…And in addition to adjusting the save rule, with the exorbitant dollar amounts that are paid to closers these days, you almost have to take into consideration all of the money that these steadfast and unyielding guys were able to save and free up for team payrolls. I’m thoroughly convinced that the game sorely needs the return of the hard working and resolute SP’er…
Need a shot of optimism for tonight?
The last time Andre Pallante faced the Pirates, last September 16, he went seven scoreless innings on four hits and nine strikeouts.
Paul Skenes is 0-2 this season and 0-4 in five career starts over the last two seasons against the Cardinals.
What are the odds these trends continue?
Whew! After that debacle last night it’s nice to see a favorable pitching match-up. This is definitely a game we should win, somewhere along the lines of 4-2. Yes it’s early, but Mr. Skenes in my opinion, has been supplanted as this game’s best young hurler by the phenom out of Milwaukee….who your’s truly spent just over $400 last week purchasing a variety of his baseball cards.
Just returned home after a whirlwind 4 day 3 night trip traversing up and down the mighty Mississippi in the great States of Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa. What’s for din-din tonight one may ask? You know, I’m not sure yet? And when this occurs, there’s only one logical thing to do…….copy one of my fellow poster’s din-din from that day’s game thread.
Night game means CiF will be in bed sawing logs when all the action is going on, dreaming perhaps of some good news to read at breakfast.
As for din-din, with the temperature over 100 degrees today I’m not inclined to make anything requiring an oven. I’ll concoct something involving fried rice, shrimp, onions, zucchini and whatever else comes to mind in the next half hour. There is half a pound cake and some fresh raspberries to offer for desert, and plenty of iced tea to fight the heat.
Hoping our birds can come alive and save this series.

There is a boat load of rain over in the greater metropolitan Pittsburgh area as I type this. And another big pile of green stuff in the Ohio area headed right towards Pittsburgh.
Hopefully all of this will move on before first pitch here in about 5.5 hours. If not expect another delay. It does indeed look like Three Rivers Stadium is going to absorb alot of rain today.
Has anyone else noticed that Brewer’s manager Pat Murphy has used a quasi sort of a 4 man rotation with a total of 9 other names taking a draw to a card type turn on the 5th day? It also seems to have worked out pretty well to this point as evidenced by the fact that all of the primary 4 SP’ers feature an ERA of 3.51 or less. In any case, I don’t guess the Brewer’s have uncovered an arm that they feel comfortable enough with to consistently take a turn in the rotation every 5th day.

That 2nd big pile of green stuff might head a little south of Pittsburgh. However, according to the Doppler Radar, it could dump some more rain on Forbes Field for tonight’s game.
This one will be lucky if there is no delay at some point.

Nice job grabbing some Misiorowski rookie cards Pugs. I am sure his cards will be a hot item at the National Sports Collectors Convention I will be hitting in a month. Skenes will no doubt stay hot as well, barring a sudden fall off from him.
They also added Bo Jackson to the autograph guest list, and I plan to spring for his signature and meet the great former all star and Heisman winner.
Tough go for our club. We get clobbered last night and have to face Skenes tonight. Maybe a rain out will be a blessing.
The Phillies, Washington, and Mets home games have already been postponed for tonight.
Not sure about us and the Reds/Red Sox game.

26 pitches, Skenes 33Boy, that’s all we need is for Contreras to get skint-up and miss some significant time. One of the countless things I’ve never liked about the DH is that pitchers no longer have to stand in the box and face the sort of risk that they impose on hitters. They think twice when exposed to a 95 mph missle.
Well, you almost have to wave him around with 2 outs, but that wasn’t even close at HP. It’s probably my imagination, but it seems like Pham has burned us several times with the mitt in recent years.
You are right about the pitchers being off the hook for retaliation,Dom. As I remember tho’ they didn’t bean Bob Gibson. We need a fire-balling righty with a bad attitude like him or Chris Carpenter!
If this game was 4 or 5 to 0, proper protocol demands that Reynolds goes down, but protocol isn’t put into practice very much anymore.
