Maybe Sonny can take on the role as the stopper after those two tough losses in extras. I’ve always been led to believe that’s what a #1 does.

The difference in the seriers so far is that Trout has broken out of his early season slump, and Winn has not.

We definitely need a Winn today.

I am afraid I will miss this one.

Din-din today will be the weekly trip to the Gasthof Amish restaurant. Fried chicken, fish, meatloaf, mashed potatoes/gravy, green beans, noodles, dressing, baked carrots, sweet potatoes (maybe), some cherry or blackberry cobbler, sweet iced tea, and then some vanilla soft serve ice cream. Then afterwards a 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigar on their front porch area – 8 feet away from the front entrance.

I am calling this one 6-3 Redbirds with Masyn Winn getting off the schneid with a couple of doubles today.

p.s. the Dodgers announcers are talking 162-0 this year. Jokingly, of course. At least I think they are joking.

The Baker lineup on Monday, revisited.
Gray getting K’s but also allowing a HR to Trout.

And the Padres are right on their heels. It is like Maris/Mantle of ’61.

Herrera with a solo shot in the 4th ties it at 1-1.

Contreras and Winn are still 0 for the season, I see.

We need a rally here to keep from going from the penthouse to the outhouse….

    Sweep them be swept.

Hercules Herrera 3 big flys. Looks like a dh to me. Bring up Crooks.

Offensive explosion there. A couple of fluky extra innings games away from being 5-1 or 6-0. Glad for Herrera to have such a big game, he has always hit well for his age at every stop.

An imperfect game but a comforting comeback that continues the warm, fuzzy opening to the 2025 season. Let us hope Winn and Contreras have recovered from their futility at the plate.

Item: Can anyone explain the significance of the wrist flapping when anyone gets a hit? The announcers don’t appear interested in informing their audience.

    Rah Cardinals.

I missed it. Herrera 3 homers are nice but behind the dish basically means he’s 2023 Jordan Walker 2.0 with the tools of ignorance on but have a game son at the plate.

That’s a win you’ve got to get after the debacle from the previous 2 evenings. Not a good since when the Angels take 2 of 3. Let’s hope it’s an outlier.

It’s suppose to be a bird one would guess.

Maybe it is in reference to the slogan “Time to Fly” the Cards used a year or two ago.

Yep that’s why I said he looks like a dh. Love his hitting but doubtful it can offset his defensive liabilities. Poor roster construction. 3 catchers and only 1 can play the position.

I’d say we’d all expect that 12 hits along with the 8 BB’s gifted from Angel’s pitching should push plenty of runs across. I’d also say we’d all expect that the Cardinal manager may think twice about sending Gray out for the 7th in his next turn. I was also curious as to whether Herrera was the first Redbird catcher to have ever ripped 3 taters in a game. I thought Simmons may have, but best I can tell he never did. I can’t ever recall 3 in a game from either Molina, McCarver or Porter and I’d be really surprised if Pags or Matheny hit 3 in a game. Anyone know?

I wouldn’t say Contreras was that bad but we all knew he’d end up a DH-1B at some point in his contract.

Right now I’d say at some point we’ll end up dealing either Herrera or Burly.

The roster construction is a tad jumbled. You really have 4 guys who can only play 1B-DH on the 26 man. I mean Burly can play OF if needed but it’s not an ideal situation if Noot or VS2 go down.

That’s the text I sent my son today-trade Burly. They’re both 1 tool players but Herreras is right handed we have plenty of lefties. And he clearly has more power.

Yes, I would trade Burleson before Herrera.

They both hit right-handed pitching better than left-handed. Herrera hits better than Burleson against both right-handers and left-handers. Burleson is unplayable against left-handers.

As an added bonus, Herrera can serve as an emergency catcher.

Yeah, Burly is the guy you might deal. Herrera is far more valuable. Plus as he matures he could get better defensively. It could happen – Yogi Berra was atrocious as a catcher early on, until Bill Dickey “learned him all he knew.” Bring Yadi in to tutor young Ivan.
