In regards to a “Happy Flight” I read that Furcal got in some trouble concerning a road rage incident in which he’s accused of assaulting a motorist by throwing mulitiple rocks at the guy. He hit him too…When I read the article I thought to myself, “The last guy I’d want throwing rocks at me is a former Big League SS who had a really good right arm”…Haha!
Walker’s bat coming around is pretty key for the remainder of the season adds a lot of depth to the lineup.
I thought the White Sox were bad last year but they run circles around the Rockies this year, Colorado easily could finish 70 games or more behind the Dodgers.
Yeah, Greyghost, it’s my view that Walker’s 2 out, 2 RBI base hit in the 4th was the most important Redbird hit of the game.

Cardinals have the 3rd best record in baseball against >.500 teams at 16-12, behind the two NY teams. Pretty remarkable.

I love watching him stand at first next to Pop. Also GG you are right. Walker hitting extends the whole backend of the lineup. Makes the difference between a 500ish offense and a contending offense.
I wonder if Walker has a breathing problem. He always stands at the plate with his mouth hanging open. He could develop a serious problem with gnats, especially when playing in Atlanta.
I don’t intend to rain on the parade, and I agree that Baltimore is probably better than its record, but the fact is that they are the third-worst team in baseball. So winning 2 of 3 close games (run differential 15 -13) is better than the alternative, but I wouldn’t rush out to buy World Series tickets yet.

It’s very hard to say what the lost COVID year did for the development of many players. Walker is very talented but so young. The best hitter in the game today (Judge) was splitting time between AA and AAA at age 23 (.680 OPS in AAA) and then scuffling in the big leagues at age 24. We’ve seen with guys like Liberatore this year that sometimes it just takes a little longer to click, but the investment is worth it. We can’t say 100% with Walker, but I’m willing to keep waiting. It’s a cheap gamble, anyway.

While I agree that winning a May series isn’t a harbinger of a planned parade this autumn, winning the majority of series is a nice feeling. It feels nice to have a little hope each day when I check in on the game. The last two years, that wasn’t often the case as they were bad (2023) and an ok record, but it was all smoke and mirrors (2024). This year, they appear to be legitimately solid and there’s enough young talent to squint and see the team being competitive going forward and maybe a real contender in a couple of years if the prospects turn out and Chaim makes a deft pickup or three.
Interesting comparison between 2024 and 2025 through 56 games. Closer in the division race, but comparable in the Wild Card.

2024- 56 game in the team sat 7GB of the division but only .5 GB of the 3rd WC spot

There are quite a few good teams in the NL this year – will be tough to get one of those six October baseball slots.
With Walker, he still does not adjust well to pitches down in the zone. He can hit pitches up, and his power is tremendous. If he can learn to go into those pitches down better – attack those pitches rather than wave over them which he tends to do, he could be a real force.
