Pallante exits with 2 out and Mateo at 3rd base in the bottom of the 6th in a 4-3 Baltimore ballgame. He didn’t pitch poorly……other than the O’Hearn 3 run tater.
Enter Steven Matz……who has not surrendered a homer all year……the only pitcher in all of baseball not to give up a homer in over 30 innings of work.
May 27, 2025 at 7:30 pm #283334A reminder as well this team is hitting .259, which is 5th in the big leagues. The average BA for this year is a .244.
Gorman and Walker are obviously well below this so I wouldn’t say this team can’t hit because neither of them can. The rest of the team is hitting quite well compared to other big league teams. No stars on offense like the Yankees with Judge, the Dodgers with Ohtani, or the Royals with Witt, but overall the Cardinals have a lot of solid regulars.

jj-cf-stlParticipantAndre bounced his curve all evening. He has done this before w/Pozo. It’s thin ice every inning.
May 27, 2025 at 7:35 pm #283336Yeah, Albert, I like respectable BA’s as well as the next guy, but what counts is how they swing the bat with a RISP. They just squandered a lead-off double while trailing by a run.
May 27, 2025 at 7:36 pm #283337Keegan Akin on to pitch the 7th. I wonder if we’ll see our old pal in the 8th? I just hated to see Kitty leave our club. He’ll do grandiose things in Baltimore.
May 27, 2025 at 7:36 pm #283338Albert, Rats is emphatic that no one can hit.
Andre does not hold runners well at all. He’s notoriously easy to steal off of. Herrera’s throw to third didn’t help either. I think the Cardinals just need to give up on Herrera as a catcher. I hate to say that because we already have Contreras, Burleson, and Gorman trying to get DH at bats let alone Baker. But it’s clear we have 2 excellent catcher and one below average catcher.
May 27, 2025 at 7:37 pm #283340Maybe this lead-off BB will come around to score.
May 27, 2025 at 7:38 pm #283341Currently Herrera is hitting.
But we will see how he ends up.
Guarantee he will not hit .300 on the year.
If he does I will buy the whole forum a Catfish Fiddler dinner.
May 27, 2025 at 7:38 pm #283342Herrera definitely doesn’t have a good arm, but you could have a cannon for an arm back there and you wouldn’t catch either of those base runners. Now maybe Herrera could have given some type of signal to let Pallante know to step off since the runners have him timed up so well.
May 27, 2025 at 7:38 pm #283343Anytime you walk Victor Scott to lead off an inning, you’re literally down on your hands and knees pleading for trouble. We should score here…..hopefully more than just once.
May 27, 2025 at 7:39 pm #283344Great hit by Noot and great baserunning by Scott, but horrible baserunning by Noot there throwing away an out. Out least Winn and Herrera are up next and can hopefully plate that run
May 27, 2025 at 7:39 pm #283345Bad baserunning by the Nootz.
May 27, 2025 at 7:39 pm #283346What is Nooty doing!!!……or moreso what is our 1st base coach doing!!
May 27, 2025 at 7:41 pm #283347I’m sure Noot thought they’d throw it to 3rd given where it was hit. It looked bad but it wasn’t a terrible gamble.
May 27, 2025 at 7:42 pm #283348Winn comes through to tie the game up.
May 27, 2025 at 7:42 pm #283349Bloop Winn single plates Scott and this game is tied. Oh if not for the hideous base running snafu.
May 27, 2025 at 7:42 pm #283350Herrera’s BA is a second thought when you see that he’s collected 25 RBI’s in 76 AB’s. Them’s numbers that put him on a pace to top Hack Wilson…Haha!
May 27, 2025 at 7:44 pm #283351“Hack” Herrera, TD?
May 27, 2025 at 7:45 pm #283352Haha!…All he needs is small feet…
May 27, 2025 at 7:50 pm #283354Boy did Cano extinguish the fire. 4-4 heading to the bottom of the 7th. And you just know we’ll be facing Kitty in the top of the 8th. Looks like we’ll have to do our offensive damage in the 9th.

jj-cf-stlParticipantLate and close 😀
May 27, 2025 at 7:52 pm #283356Walker didn’t look too confident on that can of corn to right.
May 27, 2025 at 7:53 pm #283358Do we expect this rain to delay the game?
May 27, 2025 at 7:53 pm #283359Matz = money. He’s pitching like a guy in his contract season.
Let’s hope not, Albert. We need to win this puppy tonight.
May 27, 2025 at 7:58 pm #283360Matz is pitching like a man in his contract year. Fedde is not. I know his ERA has been fine, but I don’t think teams are going to want to give a decent contract to a guy walking as many and striking out as few as Fedde is.
