Let’s see if the offense can roll Greene today.

Really like what I have seen of Pozo – lively bat and seems to handle the game well. We will have a tough decision when Herrera comes back.

Walker on the other hand is an enigma. I would be tempted to keep Pozo and send Walker to Memphis for further work. I like his stance a lot more than he had last year – more balanced. He certainly has the tools, but needs to be much better at pitch selection. Hitting is a lot about pitch recognition once you have the mechanics down. It is pretty simple really – swing at pitches you can square up, and let pitches you can’t do much with go by.

Of course that is easy to say and not so easy to do, as pitcher’s jobs are to make pitches look good, but then dart away or are not easy to square. Still, Walker misses on good pitches too often, or lets them go, and swings at bad ones more than he should. Just improve on that and he will gain 150 to 200 OPS. Not to mention the confidence will grow and he could be an elite talent. Whether he gets there we will see.

I’m guessing Oli enjoyed penciling in Winn at batting second, again. It clicked. There’s so much failure in baseball, hitting on a hunch is rewarding.

BikeMike, replacing Walker with a third catcher would leave your OF pretty thin, wouldn’t it?

Is it just my eyes on the TV screen or does Pozo appear to be a little jiggly around the middle?

Looks like there might be some rain in the Cincinnati area before too long.

It doesn’t look like much though.

Bottom half of the order has a rally snuffed out by two line drive outs.

Anyone have any idea as to how long before it’s possible to get back underway?

Someone mentioned Pozo looking a little portly. It reminded me of Dave “La Heap” LaPoint dropping a perfect underhand toss from Hernandez for a crucial 7th inning E-1 that opened the floodgates for the Brewers in game 4 of the ’82 WS. The game ended as a 7-5 Redbird loss and Herzog said, “If it had been a cheeseburger he’d have caught it”…

I could have hit that 0-2 lambchop slider from O’Brien.

Well that was a dud. Disappointing offensive performance all the way around. Frankly, disappointing from the 4th inning of the 2nd game yesterday through today.

Without a solitary RBI and only 3 paltry singles, I understand what you’re driving at, Jnevel, but if the bats had generated 9 runs today it wouldn’t have been enough. The BP tossed this one into the fire.

The rain did us no favors today. Libby did not come back out after the delay and we had to use the B Team bullpen.

Our guys just ran out of gas. With everybody thinking sweep, they were thinking sleep.

Considering the lousy performance on the road this season, a 2-2 split of the 4 game set against a division rival with a superior W/L record seems pretty good. The Cardinals won’t find any bargains when they arrive home tomorrow to see the Mets for 3 games.

Based on the first two divisional road series, the days of feasting on the Reds and Bucs may be over. The Cards are 3-4.
