That’s neat about seeing Yastrzemski for your first ever game during a DH at what’s now known as “The K” gscottar. I saw a lot of Yaz over the years, but the one and only time I ever saw him play in person was during game #5 of the ’67 WS which the Red Sox won 3-1. Lonborg was the winning pitcher of decision after working a CG in which he allowed only 3 Cardinal hits. Carlton took the loss. My dad and my grandfather took us to that game in anticipation of the Redbirds clinching the WS championship that day as the Redbirds held a 3-1 game lead. However, Lonborg and the Red Sox weren’t quite ready to capitulate. I still have the scorecard that was entirely filled out by my paternal grandfather. He even noted the precise time of first pitch at the top of the inside page. The vendor price on the thing is 2 bits…Haha! I also have quite a few old scorecards from regular season games when I was a kid. Those are only 10 cents…
Cool stuff, 1TD! I was in junior high and listened as much as I could to those series games in ‘67. Yaz was something special and my buddy up the street became a life long Red Sox fan that summer.
I have a scorecard from 1963 that my dad scored when we attended some games on a vacation. It was the first game of a double header against the Cubs and we won something like 10-3. Boyer homered, and Santo did for them.
Looks like a light Friday night “crowd” in The Lou for this one.
I’m trying to understand why I like the Brewers’ two tone uniforms, but could well do without the ones the Cardinals are wearing and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s just not right to ditch a uniform that looks as good as the long standing and time honored Cardinal home whites. I mean, you just don’t change the grill on a ’70 Chevelle.
Yeah, Bikemike, you were almost required to buy a scorecard in those days. If you didn’t, it was almost as if you didn’t attend the game. However, they got a bit pricey through the years and later on I’d make due with a local newspaper which used to contain enough useful information to get by during a game without the absolute need for a scorecard. I’d save a dollar or two and spend it on an extra hot dog…Haha!
Durbin saw four pitches in the same quadrant. Tight groupings you don’t see that often. Just challenged him.
Jon Jay was a pretty good player for us. Did a nice job picking up the slack after the Rasmus trade.
He sure was, Bikemike. A quick look at the record tells you that the Cardinals qualified for post-season play every season in which Jon Jay was the primary Cardinal CF’er. And during those 5 seasons they also won a WS championship and a NL Pennant.
Walker tossing that souvenir to the fans in the RF seats after securing the 3rd out of the 4th reminds me that they never used to do that during a game. I recall that players first began to soflty toss the baseball to fans after the final out of an inning only after returning to play in ’95 after the ’94 strike that resulted in the cancellation of that year’s postseason. In my estimation it was a sort of reconciliation gesture that said, “Hey, we’re sorry about that strike thing”…At any rate, the only time players used to toss you a souvenir back in the old days was when you begged for one during batting practice…Haha!
Kozma wiped a buggar on DD (or vice versa) in that game they caught on camera. They only showed it once. Someone must have told them not to show it anymore.
Like the organ donation awareness that David Eckstein does. I am an organ donor – my daughter got one of my kidneys when hers failed at 18 years old. She has lived a normal life since, and I do okay as well. Really got into working out leading up to the transplant surgery and it has been an important part of my life ever since.
