LHP Steven Matz (1-0, 2.16) vs. RHP Spencer Strider (0-1, 3.60)
FanDuel // KMOXApril 22, 2025 at 8:12 am #280125Hopefully Matz pitches a great game.
How long has Helsley been on the bench?
Seems like you need to get him an inning every 3-4 days no matter what?
April 22, 2025 at 8:37 am #280129On or before May 10th. To do otherwise would be telling your baseball savy followers that you’re already waving the white towel of surrender on 2025.
Our 1-10 road record puts us with some pretty uninspiring company…..those with one win or less away from their friendly confines. First off there’s the darlings (ChiSox) of the AL Central, sitting at 1-9. Then over in the NL West you have the mighty Colorado Rockies checking in at 1-11. Then over in the AL East we actually have a win less road team. Tampa Bay is 0-3….0-3? How does a team have 19 of their first 22 games scheduled at home? I’ll have to check their schedule, but if this continues, they may not be seeing much of Florida after the all star break. And while on the topic, how effective and economical for all concerned would it be for half the teams playing their first 81 games at home and then hitting the road for their final 81? I’ll have to ponder this further, but maybe there’s some hidden logic to this idea.
And what’s for din-din one may ask? I think a trip over to Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse is in the cards. As is my culinary ritual, as soon as I exit Johnny’s, I’ll be making my way over to the drive-thru lane at Popeye’s to snag 3 scrumptious apple cinnamon pies.

jj-cf-stlParticipantUntil we end this losing streak, a two inning save from Helsley should be on the table.
April 22, 2025 at 9:55 am #280138We only win road games when we face Paul Skenes.
April 22, 2025 at 12:24 pm #280152I wonder how many little weak ground balls Arenado will hit in this one tonight? Or how many little weak pop flys or flyballs?
Sort of like he did to end the game last night. Then again, Aaron Judge struck out to end the game last night in Cleveland. And he was the tying run.
April 22, 2025 at 2:38 pm #280158We only win road games when we face Paul Skenes.
I love that post, Jnevel! As crazy as that seems, there certainly is some merit to Jnevel’s words. Even with Kyle Hendricks’ advancing age, I’d almost rather face Skenes that the ex-cubs hurler.
Tonight is a pivotal game for our Cardinals. A team like our 2025 Cardinals may have 4 or 5 pivotal regular season games. Stellar teams such as the Dodgers or Padres may not have a single pivotal regular season game all year. The same can be said about the lousy clubs like the Rockies or ChiSox. But your middle of the road teams could have several. If our Cardinals lose this pivotal game tonight, it unfortunately could be their final crucial game on the year……which would be a crying shame at this juncture.
April 22, 2025 at 2:54 pm #280159That’s true Pugs. Whether or not I go back to watching Cannon and The Streets Of San Francisco during the weeknights might depend on this game tonight. Or games in the very near future.

April 22, 2025 at 4:23 pm #280161Let us all pray that Rat will be not indulging full-board on a steady diet of Cannon, The Streets of San Francisco and of course the lovely Audra of The Big Valley fame, until this coming winter.

jj-cf-stlParticipantPages / Winn / Gorman / Scott, up the middle, you know the rest.
April 22, 2025 at 6:40 pm #280168
jj-cf-stlParticipantAndre is a good infielder.
April 22, 2025 at 6:57 pm #280169
jj-cf-stlParticipantScott singles and Noot homers, 2-0
April 22, 2025 at 7:04 pm #280171Still toiling away down here at the salt mines, so I cannot give this game my full undivided attention just yet, but I just brought up the replay in Noot’s tater and boy did that Braves hurler blew-ett on that pitch…….I think even I could have gone yard on that pitch. 2-0 Good Guys.
April 22, 2025 at 7:04 pm #280172Dodgers lead the Cubs 3-0 on the heels of a first inning 3 run tater by…You guessed it, Little Eddie. That’s his 8th HR of season which gives him the Dodger team lead in that category. He also leads all other Dodgers with 18 RBI’s. This is getting silly. I hope he’s not hanging out with Canseco and McGwire out there in California…
April 22, 2025 at 7:09 pm #280173Dang…Cubbies answer back with 5 runs in the home half of the first.
April 22, 2025 at 7:09 pm #280174Andre Houdini.
April 22, 2025 at 7:10 pm #280175
jj-cf-stlParticipantHoudini escapes w/a K to end the 3rd.
54 pitches.
2-0 StLApril 22, 2025 at 7:12 pm #280176
jj-cf-stlParticipantHe really lost his command on back to back walks.
April 22, 2025 at 7:25 pm #280177
jj-cf-stlParticipantWinn spits on a outer half strike and swings on two inside pitches off the plate. Ok then.
April 22, 2025 at 7:27 pm #280178Who’s watching the Dodgers-cubs game? Twins are tied 1-1 with the ChiSox in the 3rd.
April 22, 2025 at 7:30 pm #280179And what’s wrong with Baltimore? Cincinnati just harpooned them the other day 24-2 and now Washington is drilling them 6-0 in the 6th in our nation’s capital.
April 22, 2025 at 7:32 pm #280180
jj-cf-stlParticipantThe HR and double were both center cut mistakes. Andre is all over the place.
April 22, 2025 at 7:33 pm #280181Murphy goes downtown on us again…..this time a solo shot in the 4th slicing the Redbird lead in half…..2-1 with Atlanta looking for more.
April 22, 2025 at 7:34 pm #280182I’m scoreboard watching, Pugs. Cubbies with a 5-4 lead heading to the home half of the 3rd.
April 22, 2025 at 7:36 pm #280183We saw Molina keep 10,001 of those in front of HP.
