Well, that is far from assured. They would have to win out, 4-0, to get to 82 wins and a winning record. 3-1 would get them to .500.
Of course it’s not assured. It just feels like the Cardinal thing to do. I think I predicted them to finish hot to get to .500 in my bold prediction thread, so we will see if they can make it happen.
Amazing that the Indians were 15 1/2 games in back of the Tigers on July 8th and 12 1/2 off the pace on August 25th….and now they are tied. Momentum is a real and almost tangible thing. Even though the Indians and Tigers are currently tied, the Tigers have absolutely no chance of now winning the division. Cleveland is currently bursting at the seams in momentum and Detroit doesn’t even have an ounce of this cherished good as gold sports commodity. It’s over…..the Indians have won this division and I would literally stake my life on it.
Yeah as you know, Sal was a heck of a 3rd baseman with a few teams back in the day, KeepComingBack. I associate him as an Oakland A moreso than of the other teams he played for. I’m going to have to check his career stats to see how he compares with Arenado. His brother Chris didn’t have anything close to Sal’s numbers. Sal passed away in a little community (Oconomowoc) not far from me of cancer a few years ago……I think he was in his late 70’s.
It stinks the Mets won on 9/23. They own the tie breaker over the Cards. Hopefully the Mets lose out along with the reds and Dbacks. Cards need a lot of help.
For the remaining games, if eliminated, I’d like to see Fermin, Crooks, and Church start. See what we have in 2026. I was happy to see the Cards get a gritty win on the road. Let’s keep it rollin!
Yeah Pugs, when I saw that the Indians had caught the Tigers I was astounded. Just shows to go you…It’s baseball and anything’s possible until the arithmetic says it ain’t.
I watched that Guardians-Tigers game last night. Really cool to see Cleveland fans celebrating and having a great time at the old ball yard.
Also happy to see the Mariners in the post season. They are the team I want to win the AL pennant. Second choice is the Guards. In the NL I would like to see San Diego.
Crazy isn’t it, TD. The Tribe had to have been at their low point after we pranced into their yard and swept them 3 straight (outscoring them 21-6) in late June. Then after getting drilled by St. Louis, they get it handed to them again 3 straight in Wrigley. Then after that 3 game road trip, they go back home and Detroit joins the fun club by whipping them 3 straight by a combined score of 10-3. That’s when they must have had their intervention and started to turn things around a bit. But what an amazing turnaround by these upstart Indians. If they end up going on to win it all, it would be the most amazing ball club since the ’69 Mets. Now they couldn’t steal the Mets “Amazing Mets” name, so they would have to come up with their own…….that’s kind of a toughie off the top of my head…..”Improbable Indians”?…….no that doesn’t sound right….anyone have one?
How’s about, “The Wonderful Wahoos”…The Chief sure has a big toothy smile after overtaking those Tigers…Haha!
Although I’m far from being a fan of the present concept that allows 12 teams to qualify for post-season baseball, I have to concede that the line of reasoning for a WC is a legitimate one. I’m the first in line to argue that countless WC teams only serve to not only water down the post-season field, but also to diminish the intense atmosphere of a genuine pennant race. However, I’m always reminded of the ’93 Giants who went 103-59 and didn’t qualify for a solitary bonus baseball game after the regular season had ended. That’s a .636 clip and a kick in the backside…Haha! In any case, I’d say the notion of the WC serves a good purpose until the money mongers expoit it to excess
