After Thursday’s day off

Have to be honest. I have terribly mixed feelings about this series. At one time, the thought of myself even slightly rooting for our boys to lose would seem unimaginable. But with this series that’s where I’m at. I do not want to see the cubbies come roaring back to win this division. Do these thoughts make me a poor fan……..or maybe even a bad person?

p.s. weather is fairly warm here in SW Indiana today (Thursday). Highs in the mid 80s. Then back to the upper 80s and low 90s the next few days. Summer has returned.
p.p.s. I’ll miss this game as I will be down in Jasper for the titanic struggle of the Evansville Bosse Bulldogs against the homestanding Jasper Wildcats. I am going to call this one 27-7 Cats.
The Brewers just got swept by the Rangers so they had better kick it into gear unless they want the Cubs to creep back into the NLC title picture. I am wrestling with the same dilemma Pugs. I don’t want to see our Cards lose but I sure don’t want to see the Cubs win the division.
I’ll probably be at just Friday’s game, Rat. I usually attend 2 games when the Cards are in town, but I have a pretty busy weekend on tap. Front Row Amy will be there, so I’ll be sure to tell her that “Rat says hey”.
I wonder if Scotty and I are the only two conflicted posters surrounding this series? It’s not in our blood to root against our boys…….and I don’t think I will muster up those negative sentiments come game time. I’ll just say that I won’t take it hard if we lose this series.
I think Bosse will rule the evening tomorrow, Rat. Let’s call it:

Jasper Wildcats 24Let’s keep it realistic here. Cubs have about a good of a chance of the division as we do the last wild card. Our schedule isn’t exactly favorable. All th teams are either in the playoffs or fighting for the last spot. We are fighting for .500.

The Evansville Bosse Bulldogs are 0-3 on the season. They have lost to:
Vincennes 43-12
Evansville Central 28-20

Doesn’t matter, Rat. Jnevel and I both have some serious coin on Bosse. We’re getting 17 1/2 points, but we like the Bulldogs to prevail straight-up. Jnevel and I rarely lose a bet when we have $5 on a game. You may want to hop on our bandwagon.
$5!!!!! Are you crazy???? I only have a quarter to my name but I’m so confident on this one that I bet it all on Bosse.
If nothing else, these three late season games will afford the Cardinals an opportunity to save a little face and define themselves as a team that refused to entirely pack it in. I suspect they’ll either perform as though they have something important to play for against a Brewers team that has firmly established itself as elite, or they’ll roll over and serve as a sort of brush aside fodder for the Brewers to place themselves out of reach of the Cubs. Hopefully they want to avoid taking on the persona of a quitter.
Any player who is not an established star always has a great reason to play as hard as they can no matter the teams record or place in the standings.
The players who ARE established stars typically got that way because they are very talented and always play hard.
This decade (2016-2025) the Cardinals have 2 division titles: 2019 and 2022. The renaissance of Cardinal baseball, if there is to be one, has to start with winning a lot more division titles then going from there.
Bloom has his work cut out for him as both the Brewers and the Cubs will be hard to catch – I’m not saying we can’t finish above them in a given season; I’m saying over the course of 5-6 years staying on top of both of those franchises will tough but that’s the job.

I don’t think they’re all that hard to catch. The development system needs to produce like it was circa 2009-2017, and the front office needs to supplement via wise trades and free agent signings. Note that wise signings don’t always mean sitting out on big contracts. You think we’d have two division titles had we signed Max Scherzer or Bryce Harper to (what now appear to be) perfectly reasonable big $$ deals? How about if we’d have traded Alex Reyes and Jack Flaherty instead of Sandy Alcantara and Zac Gallen? How about skipping the Cecil, Fowler, Holland, Matz type of signings for plain better players?
Anyway, the Cards have tried to walk the market like since the mid 2010s and got burned. They could achieve the same results they’ve gotten with a small market philosophy, or they could have genuine success with a mid-upper market philosophy. It’s up to the owner to decide and the FO to deliver.

Halfway through the 2nd quarter Jasper led Evansville Bosse 49-0. Complete blowout. I left.
I see we are behind at Milwaukee.
4-0 Brewers in the 4th.
Pallante continues to demonstrate that he doesn’t possess the talent or ability to be a borderline 5th member of a Big League rotation. Same stale routine. Lots of BB’s complimented with plenty of solid contact. He’s at 5.34 and consistently increasing altitude.
It’s looking more and more like both the Reds and Rangers have a realistic chance to qualify for bonus baseball. It wasn’t too long ago that both of those teams looked to be out of contention but neither one of them looks to have packed it in. I’ll also say that both of those teams have a legitimate Big League field manager. Go figure…
Didnt watch tonight, was planning on it but got tired. Prob best i didnt. You can count me in the crowd cheering more for the brewers to win cause i dont want the cubs to get any success. Our season is pretty much shot, has been for a while so cubs not winning the division is the only good thing left.
I was on the reds to def improve totally because of their manager. Maybe not make playoffs this year but i expected improvement. So that would be a bonus and good for them. People on here always try to discount the manager and sometimes that can be true to a point. But some managers can change outcomes just by changing the culture. Francona may not win any championships in cincinatti but he might be that guy that gets tnem pointed in the right direction and that can be a big accomplishment. Im not knocking marmol too much cause hes done ok this year but he isnt that type of manager at least from my view. If he was there wouldnt be all these in house questions. Cardinals might eventually win more if they keep him but in will be more in spite of him than because of him. Thats just my thoughts on it.
Um I haven’t really been around much but Gorman is hitting .143 since August 27th.
He’s pretty much showing what he’s shown his entire career. Extremely streaky power hitting with a bad glove at the hot corner and modest one at 2nd.
This is it for him. IMO I think he has 2 weeks or so to show value or I think he’s gone in some form in the off season and I wouldn’t blame Bloom one bit if We wanted to cut bait. Same with Walker unless you want to wait around like the Angels did with Adell. I don’t think he’s got that much time. Maybe demote him next year and make him prove he belongs.
