RHP Michael McGreevy (6-3, 4.68) vs. RHP Logan Gilbert (4-6, 3.61)
MLB Network // FanDuel // KMOXHopefully McGreevy has a good game but unfortunately I think the Mariners win this one comfortably about 9-2.
But I could be wrong since I don’t know the weather forecast or what everyone has had for dinner.
LOL Osuagec! Rat has been strangely silent……..and his weather forecasts have been dearly missed. I long for the days when we had a winning ball club. You’d have to grab a number and wait in line to post on our game threads. My din-din tonight was 2 whoppers(no cheese), onion rings with their zesty sauce, coke and then for dessert I swung on through the Popeye’s drive thru lane to snag 3 of their delicious apple cinnamon pies.
Let’s call this one 6-3 Birds with Victor Scott going deep.
Bases juiced with no outs in the top of the 2nd in a 1-0 Cardinal ballgame…..and Gilbert whiffs the next 3 Redbird batters. A Herrera 1st inning solo shot the game’s lone run. Momentum shifts right on over to the home team.

Herrera – Grazed on the shoulder and even though that Gilbert pitch was barely worth an “ouch”, Ivan is still allowed to trot on down to 1st base.
Burleson- Strikes out swinging.
Contreras – Pops out weakly to the 1st baseman in foul territory.
Gorman – *Herrera steals 2nd….. Gorman strikes out flailing at one about 3 inches below sea level.

Mariners 1So, we struck out 6 times in 3 innings? Who they got pitching?
Anyway, din din was a couple pan fried jack salmon and acorn squash with butter and brown sugar. Desert was a Klondike bar.
Dandy din-din, Bling……except for the squash. One of my many ex-wives absolutely loved squash and beets…….2 items that I could never stomach.
Come on Church! Whiffs in the 2nd with the bases loaded and then comes right back here in the 4th with runners straddling 2nd and 3rd and goes down swinging again. Then Nooty hits a lazy fly ball to right and there goes another golden opportunity to put some runs on the board…..but that’s what sub-par teams do.
I’ve never enjoyed jack salmon anywhere other than at a fish fry at countless different churches but it’s one of my favorite varieties of fish. If I knew how to make it at home I could envision my self having it for dinner every night of the week. I like it served up with cole slaw along with macaroni and cheese. And a tall iced tea’s always the required beverage. At any rate, it don’t get any better than fried jack salmon. Except for fried catfish…Haha!

Herrera- Gilbert at 84 pitches entering this inning, so this frame will undoubtedly be his last. Ivan strikes out swinging like so many others before him.
Burleson- Flies out to straight-away center field.
Contreras- A splitter nails Contreras on his upper left thigh and that wayward pitch right there will cost Gilbert any chance for picking up the “W” as he’s being shown the door after going 4 2/3 innings, surrendering 1 earned run on 5 hits, striking out 8 and walking just 1.
New pitcher is Carlos Vargas
Gorman- Bounces out to 3rd to retire the side.

Rat will love you forever for that comment, TD. Wouldn’t it be grand if a bunch of us got together at Rat’s Amish restaurant some day to enjoy their steaming hot catfish fiddlers? Then, like Rat, we could all head on out to their porch to puff away on one of Rat’s 7×50 Rio Grande Presidente cigars.

Saggese- 2-2 tonight (a pair of singles)……Thomas skips a ground ball just past the 3rd baseman where it just barely kicks up a smidgen of chalk and it’ll result in a 2 base hit to open the Redbird 6th…..sweet start.
Pages – Strikes out swinging.
Fermin – Grounds out to 2nd with Saggese taking up new residence at 3rd base…..we’re not going to blow another primo scoring opportunity are we?
Church – Yep, he grounds out to Suarez at 3rd to retire the side. And our odds of obtaining victory in this game are extremely slim……you just cannot waste this many chances to score in this great game without the baseball Gods not making you pay the price for it……especially when your season’s body of work is so uninspiring.

Nooty – Strikes out looking. Nooty started unraveling his shin guard at home plate on that 3-2 pitch in an attempt to sway the home plate arbiter’s decision……but it was to no avail.
Herrera- Gets hit on the toe…..that’s the second time he’s been hit by a pitch tonight, but both times wouldn’t have hurt a mouse.
Burleson – Gets rung up on a check swing that could have been called either way…..that’s a crying shame it didn’t go our way, but with the way we’ve been squandering opportunities tonight, it probably wouldn’t have mattered anyway .
Contreras – Strikes out swinging for the downs.

Mariners 1Yeah Pugs, I can eat fried catfish anywhere, anytime. I never smoked cigars, but my dad smoked cigars like he was mad at ’em, so I was always used to them and never did mind anyone enjoying a cigar or cigarette while I was in the vicinity. My dad always smoked White Owls…Haha!
Oh my TD……my pops smoked White Owls too…..what a coincidence……oh what a beautiful catch by Burly in left robbing Canzone of a 2 bagger.

Saggese (3-3 on the evening) – Grounds out to Crawford at SS….but Thomas awkwardly stumbles to the turf crossing 1st base…..fortunately it looks all good as Saggese gets up and trots on off.

Top of 9. Jose Castillo on for Seattle. Jose making only his second appearance since being acquired via trade.
Fermin- Robbed of a hit by the Crawford-Naylor duo(SS-1st).
Pozo (PHing for Church) – Robbed of a hit by the Suarez-Naylor duo(3b-1b).
Nooty – Squibbs a grounder up the middle that the SS Crawford gathers in, but he’ll have no choice but to put that one in his hip pocket with the speedy Nooty motoring on down the line….infield hit.

Burleson – Lines out to right where Robles jumps to catch the ball when he absolutely could have caught it flat footed. A few Mariner faithful actually fell for the theatrics as they were wildly cheering the catch.
Contreras- Flies out routinely to center…..and oh my golly what’s this! Herrera gets doubled off 2nd and that maneuver ladies and gentlemen is Exhibit A as to how to lose a ballgame.

Mariners 1I just happened to notice that both the Reds and Giants are only 2 games off the pace for the final NLWC berth. And with a W in Seattle, the Cardinals would pull to within 3.5 games off the pace for that same final NLWC berth. That’s a shame, because I’ve been led to understand that the Redbirds decided to pack it in several weeks ago. I don’t mind too awfully much when someone or something fails to realize success in an endeavor, but I’ve always despised a quitter.
I also just saw that the Rangers have pulled to within 1 game off the pace for the final ALWC berth. Bochy’s no quitter. I wish my favorite team had a field manager.
I don’t know how O’Brien escaped that 10th inning pickle, but he somehow did. Still tied at 1 going to the 11th. If we win this one it’ll be an absolute miracle.
