Mikolas?
Oh great.
And the Cubs will either be 8, 9, or 10 games behind the Brewers when the five game series starts Monday in Chicago at Wrigley Field.
Mikolas does pitch better at home. But you never feel like this is a game where you have a chance when he is listed as the starter. Bloom & Co simply have to figure out a way to get better starting pitching first and foremost.
But man, the Brewers are something else. The story of the year, with Cal Raleigh also sharing some headlines. Depending on how Milwaukee ends up, they might just be the sports story of the year, not just baseball.
How can they be this good?
On another topic, I see MLB is in discussions for the next big television deal, with Netflix, Apple, Comcast, and others all in negotiations. If Rats wasn’t already upset enough, he will really be throwing tantrums after this next deal is announced.
It’s often times been claimed that most things eventually come full circle. It may not be too long until only about 20 to 25 games will be available via a telecast to the run of the mill baseball fan. If he wants to tune in to the remainder of the games he’ll have to do so via a radio broadcast. It’ll be just like the “good ol’ days”…Haha!

Dean obviously had a injury shortened career and carpenter spent a long time with toronto so not real surprising. I dont see mikolas ever getting a red jacket and def not getting into hall of fame. I think milkolas has been a good cardinal, just his last two seasons have beem rough.
The comparison is somewhat similar to pointing out the fact that Omar Visquel collected more hits in his career than Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe Dimaggio, or Ted Williams.
Another fact regarding Mikolas is that during his first season in a Redbird uniform he went 18-4 which calculates to a scathing .818 W/L pct. Chris Carpenter or Adam Wainwright never achieved that lofty of a W/L pct. And neither did Gibson, Dean or Tudor. In fact, I can’t find any Cardinal pitcher to have ever placed a better W/L pct. up on the board during a season in which they worked over 200 IP’ed. Can anyone else find one? It may be a Redbird record.
I pointed out yesterday that Pages had been by far the Cardinals best hitter since August 1. He’s now running a 275 WRC+ and a 1.362 OPS.
Guess who the best hitter in baseball since August 1 is? Yes sir. It is indeed Pages.
Small sample size obviously as he has just 32 plate appearances. And he was terrible in June and July so there’s that caveat as well.
Yeah, Dean had the injury in the 1937 all star game and was never the same. Not to mention he was a persistent critic of Branch Rickey and felt Rickey was too cheap to pay him, and his brother what they were worth. When Rickey had a chance to unload him, he took it.
Carpenter was also oft-injured, missing the entire 2003 season after we signed him, and the latter part of ‘04 as well. I think he might have missed ‘07 also, or maybe ‘08. Could look it up but am using my phone to send this and it is not easy to bounce back and forth using it as TCN makes me log in again, even when I check “keep me logged in.”
Church swings at a pitch in the dirt at his feet. Gets a better rip after that and grounds out sharply.
Really impressed with Pozo. The guy is aggressive and can really square up a pitch. Probably need to deal a catcher or two this winter for pitching.

Church has hit the ball hard all 3 times. He seems to have a quick bat and makes solid contact. I would like to see more of him.
Yep forscha31. Scott is an elite defensive talent in cf. But we are offensively challenged. If Church can hit anything like he did in AAA, we have to give it a long look.
KCB, it sounds like Church is really good, defensively, as well. He does have a strong arm, obviously.
And the Reds end the Brewers 14 game winning streak. 3-2 Reds in 10 innings at Crosley Field in Cincinnati.
We need to sign a guy named Brian O’Reilly this off season and go into next year with Riley O’Brien and Brian O’Reilly.
Still think O’Reilly, er I mean O’Brien, should be used at closer the remainder of ‘25.
