i dislike Willson on the infield, both D and base running
JJ, the eye test Contreras passes for me. He has made some bad plays at times that were simply from the wrong decision making, but he gets to more balls than most 1B. Then going to double check that with defensive metrics, he has been above average with the glove at 1B according to OAA.
August 3, 2025 at 8:07 pm #289538He’s a very good athlete and looks fine out there. Moves well, seems more comfortable than Walker in rf.
That is great to hear he looks fine out there. Herrera is our only guy today that hit worth a lick. A whopping 16 Ks today while Herrera was on base 3 times with 2 hits and it sounds like his one out was the best hit ball of the day.

jj-cf-stlParticipantSome plate appearance belong to the team, and so do some runs, while running the bases. Willson can be out of control (decision making) too often and on throws too. I currently like him at DH. Was glad to read Herrera looked good in LF.
August 3, 2025 at 9:06 pm #289547He played 3B until halfway through his AA year.
Yes, but he was bad at it.
August 4, 2025 at 3:33 am #289557what is Walker’s ‘natural’ position?
Seated.
August 4, 2025 at 6:31 am #289560So, Walker is really a DH that can’t hit.
I mean – damn boys – doesn’t he really need to go to AAA and stay there until he’s a AAA all-star?
August 4, 2025 at 9:14 am #289572ZTR – Walker has only 1 option left. If they move him now, he gets about 6 weeks in AAA before their season ends. Then, he will be out of options and cannot be sent down again.
Hindsight being 20/20, he should have been at AAA all season or until he started mashing there again. But at this point, it’s better to keep him at the MLB level and send him down next season if he doesn’t have a great Spring. Small sample size, but he is tied with Herrera for the team’s 3rd best hitter by WRC+ (111) since July 1. Even going back to June 1, he’s their 6th best hitter – just above Donovan and well above Winn, Nootbaar, Arenado, and Scott.

jj-cf-stlParticipantMo gave opportunity to players he is invested in. Walker, Pages, Scott, Libby…. and more. They played by mandate. At that point its up to the players to produce. 50-ish games left.
