I would rather keep Gray if you are going to have 4 young pitchers in the rotation with him, can be a mentor type role plus he is a pretty decent pitcher

But they seem more focused on saving $ above everything else, that is at least my impression of this year and it looks like next year as well

    You are spot on greyghost.

We are going to balance the budget, win 60 games, and hope Bloom can pull a rabbit out of his hat.

I think Our Bill will try to avoid the team doing worse next season.

It should be possible to be equally bad for less money.

If Gray wants out it’s best to figure out how to make that happen.

The franchise may have to go backwards to move forward. I don’t really want to hear that or think about that after the past decade of mostly futility but – that may very well be the position they are in.

There are reasons to think 2026 could be really rough and there are also reasons to think it might be the beginning of the climb back to being an actual contender.

If Doyle is Skenes and Wetherholt is great those 2 alone added to the (more or less) projected 2026 roster would likely be the WC3.

Get your popcorn ready for the off-season, lol.

The recent trade talk originated from Gray. He is putting his NTC up for sale. If it’s a favorable destination for Sonny when traded, he may let the acquiring club buy out his “opt out” for 2027 also. Follow the money.

How so? By spending even less?

I would be okay with having Sonny Gray here, but he should have a chance to go win somewhere else. A trade won’t do the Cards any good unless the receiving team takes his whole contract. Same goes for Arenado.
