I’ll be darned about Packy. I actually looked him up prior to seeing your comment and I only found info about a 15-day that was dated sometime around mid April. I’m reasonably sure it was probably mentioned on one of the game broadcasts and I just missed it. Anyway, thanks and that’s too bad about Packy.

Here is the link to the Roster Matrix. It has all the IL and other transaction info in one place.

Routine disrupted because he’s 41 years old? He’d better enjoy it while he can because in another 20 years he’ll have to ramp it up to get his socks on in the morning…Haha!

Might as well invest in who will be here next season. If it were up to me, I’m cleaning house this coming offseason, to the tune of 9 players. 7 are active today, and then there’s Hudson and O’Neill.

One of the 9 is Monty, who I’d like back, but it takes two to agree. But yah, get that Memphis shuttle gassed up and lets see what others want to be part of the 24′ season.

Maybe all this talk is for nothing and the six-man is one and done. Read this Mo quote from today.

So, they are going to take a guy who is stretched out and put him in the pen? But maybe short term? Once he is out of a starter’s routine, then what? Back to Memphis to stretch out again? Or just throw him out there? And if we are not pivoting to a 6 man, then why was the extra starter pushing everyone back a day done right now? Is there some sense to this? I’m confused.

MIL blows up Wainwright and a lefty got better results.

Mo said next 5 are the rotation members, then we’ll see. So Libby’s usage will tell us a lot.

You’re not confused, Bling…You just think that’s what you were thinking about when you thought you were thinking about it…Haha!

    I share your frustration, Bling.
Deep dysfunction here, by my lights. Liberatore was excellent in Spring Training, and then excellent in AAA this year, earning an MLB start — and he excelled! Again! I mean, it was kinda thrilling, wasn’t it? Regular mid-90’s velocity paired with a well-located curve and the occasional other offering. And zero runs, folks. So even though the club needs a good starter desperately (for both this season and beyond) that near flawless performance against the only meaningful division rival, earns him, what, a nebulous bullpen role?

Matz stinks in 2022, stinks again in 2023, and until further notice that apparently gets him a permanent rotation slot.

I swear, if this team never, ever, ever signs another free agent, it’ll be soon enough for me. Every %$#@ing roster decision and player usage choice is contaminated by over-prioritizing our precious free agents — well, that and the present manager’s destructive fetishistic obsession with maximizing righty-lefty matchups while batting, and minimizing R-L when pitching.

There are $44M reasons why. They will keep running him out there until the last year of the deal at least. Got to earn that return on investment even if it cripples your team….sigh

Matt Liberatore will indeed get a start on the upcoming Ohio road trip, Marmol said today. If a situation arises for him in the bullpen this weekend that could be an option, but it didn’t sound like a likely one.

    They’ve been doing this forever.

They’ll try and get whatever they will get as much out of Matz as they can. They do this for reasons.

It’s not a play the old head card. They do it because they’ve invested so much in him as a starter. So he’ll be in there until they’ve got no other choice.

I mean they can’t throw out 3 lefties. You can’t do it but if they throw ML out every once in a while they have kept everyone happy.

A good tactic for addressing inadequacy is to redefine success. So, abracadabra, poof, there we go, keeping us in it for 5 innings is a successful start now.

The reality is that a 5 inning start is not all that different than a pen game. But as the wise sage Adam Savage often said on Mythbusters, “I reject your reality and substitute my own”.

Yes, that is quite the spin.

How about we talk solutions instead of problems? You don’t like Liberatore. You don’t like Matz. You don’t like five-inning starters, even when they do well. Who would be your starting five, then? Please enlighten us as to all the great alternatives they are ignoring…

The alternatives have been ignored the last two offseasons by ownership and bowtie, and that’s not on BB.

My solution is defining success as keeping us in it for 4 innings. Now our rotation is solid and it didn’t cost anything.

No debate I’ve seen here disagreeing that the front office should have addressed the rotation previously. But what good does it do to keep making that same point over and over? I think we all agree on that.

They are where they are right now. This thread is about the six-man rotation being tried currently. Some do not like it, but no alternatives are being offered – other than go back in time.

Yah, it does no good to keep making the same valid point over and over. My bad, I’ll fix that.
