They all think they need a signature home run call. Gets old fast.
January 23, 2023 at 4:42 pm #211447Yeah, they do, but this guy’s “calls” are genuinely not unlike the sound intensity level registered on a decibel meter as the air raid warnings were screaming of the impending approach of an armada of allied four engined bombers approaching Berlin…It’s as if every tater has ended the 11th inning of a final 7th game. As I mentioned earlier, don’t let this guy anywhere near a pot of coffee…
January 23, 2023 at 4:52 pm #211449Who can forget “slama-lama-ding-dong”?

January 23, 2023 at 4:56 pm #211451Chip Caray would be interesting. Reviving the Caray name in STL would be a blast from the past.
January 23, 2023 at 5:08 pm #211454In my view Joe Buck’s best call of his entire broadcasting career was, “They…Just…Won’t…Go…Away.” Those four simple words spoken into the microphone immediately after Berky had again tied the score at 9-9 with a solid line drive single to CF in the 10th summed up the entire 2011 Cardinal season.
January 23, 2023 at 6:49 pm #211465Chip Caray
January 23, 2023 at 7:09 pm #211468That’s what they’re now claiming in the local paper. The headline claimed he “could replace Dan McLaughlin.” He’s a good choice in my view.

ParticipantNot really my choice but probably as good as most.
January 23, 2023 at 9:07 pm #211478I like this. I think he will be fine in the role.
Now if they could just get Hrabosky to be his running mate/analyst it will be even better.

January 24, 2023 at 7:40 am #211487Dont want this tô get political but I think it is an observation worthy of discussion — are there any Black play by play guys at the major league level? Rádio? TV?
January 24, 2023 at 8:48 am #211494Chip Caray is definitely a nostalgic hire. I kind of like it. His family has a long history in STL.
January 24, 2023 at 9:01 am #211496Caray has a good voice for television. Whilst I wish Danny Mac was still here I think Caray is going to be exceptionally good in the TV booth.
January 24, 2023 at 10:43 am #211502Carioca…I’m not sure, but although he wasn’t the PBP guy, I always enjoyed Joe Morgan when he was paired up with Jon Miller on the ESPN national broadcasts. I always got the impression that those two really liked working with one another, and I also thought they complimented each other remarkably well.
January 24, 2023 at 2:27 pm #211524Joe Morgan???
The worst announcer in the history of baseball. So dull and boring. Jeff Brantley of the Reds is right on his heels for the #1 spot also.
January 24, 2023 at 2:49 pm #211528A Caray in the Cardinals booth? Boy that would rocket me back to days of yore sitting on the living room rug next to the ol’ Motorola!
January 24, 2023 at 4:08 pm #211537Hiring Chip Caray is just like acquiring a #1 starter.

January 24, 2023 at 4:39 pm #211539Chip should work out well. He only has to exercise care whilst on foot in St.L and attempting to cross major thoroughfares. I’m reasonably certain that some may recall when in 1968 his grand-dad suffered compound fractures of both legs, a dislocated shoulder and numerous facial cuts as he was hit by a car during an attempt to cross Kingshighway in the city of StL. at 1:30 am…Harry was more than fortunate it didn’t kill him. Most definitely a bad day for the legendary Redbird broadcaster, but here’s the kicker…Once he had been stabilized and transported from emergency treatment to his hospital room, St. Louis Police issued him a citation for jaywalking…Sometimes a guy just can’t catch a break.
January 24, 2023 at 6:06 pm #211549Yep, several Black color analyst (enough tô.probably be near represenative). It is the PBP guys that seem tô be severely underepresented. I would say 80% (or more) of the PBP guys are not formar major league players.
January 24, 2023 at 6:16 pm #211551Is Chip Carey really a legitimate option?
January 24, 2023 at 6:28 pm #211553I can’t think of a reason he wouldn’t be, GameCard. With the exception of myself, I can’t come up with a better choice…Haha!
January 24, 2023 at 9:29 pm #211559Chip Caray is a great choice. Thought he was anchored in Atlanta, but this is a cool “full circle” hire.
Back when Chip was doing Cubs games I never thought much of him. But I heard him on Braves broadcasts years later, and he had improved a lot. He is a quality broadcaster. He’s got to feel great coming back to where his grandpa is a legend, and his dad got his start.
Chip is different than the earlier Caray’s, who used a lot of enthusiasm (Harry) and humor (Skip) in their style. Chip is more of a straight man.
I like the hire!

ParticipantApparently goldsmith took his name out of the hat. In the end, he didn’t want to move his family just for his own personal motivation or means. That’s a life lesson you can learn from.

stlcard25ParticipantThe Caray name carries some sway in St Louis. I’m not sure if it will prove a great hire or not, but he should prove steady for the next few years or more.
January 30, 2023 at 7:22 pm #211875The formal announcement has been made.
