Here is the follow-up CBA quote. It’s obvious Samson (if he’s the one who said it) is absurdly wrong when he said the Dodgers could put the deferred funding in an account for just one day, then do whatever they wanted with it after that.

“Unless the Uniform Player’s Contract provides otherwise, a Club may fund deferred compensation obligations in such manner as it elects, provided that: (a) the funding method used by the Club must be such that the amount(s) funded are exclusively for the uses and purposes of satisfying the deferred compensation obligation(s) being funded; (b) the amount(s) funded are maintained in the form of unencumbered assets comprising cash or cash equivalents and/or registered and unrestricted readily marketable securities, unless a Club obtains the Parties’ prior written authorization of an alternative form; and (c) such amount(s) funded are subject to the claims of the Club’s general creditors. Each Club shall certify quarterly to the Office of the Commissioner by January 31, April 30, July 31, and October 31 of each year (and the Office of the Commissioner shall provide such certifications to the Association within 30 days of their receipt) the manner in which its deferred compensation obligations that were required to be funded by the immediately preceding July 1 have been funded. In addition, upon each quarterly certification, each Club shall provide to the Office of the Commissioner all records relating to its deferred compensation funding arrangements, and the Office of the Commissioner shall supply any such records to the Association upon request.”

gscott, here’s a decent article I read on the subject from the LA Times by Jack Harris and Bill Shaikin. Unlike Samson, they pretty much get it right. Samson seems to just be ranting away like a goober.

And now it’s being reported the Doyers have acquired Tyler Glasnow from Tampa Bay. One article said Glasnow was a target of the Cubs. If that’s true then all I can say is…”Way to go Doyers!”

If the Dodgers have indeed acquired Glasnow…..

    110 wins for LA.

It’s a good trade for both teams. TB sheds the money they wanted to shed and got really good return, LAD get a veteran starter they wanted. I would have liked Glasnow in STL, but I would have like Pepiot it STL too. He’s unproven at this point, but it wouldn’t surprise me a bit to see Pepiot actually end 2024 with better stats than Glasnow. He’s good.

Both Glasnow and Pepiot have had trouble staying healthy. Always risky counting on pitchers with an injury history.

Thanks for the information Euro. This is one of the most compelx contracts MLB has had in awhile. You would think someone like Samson would understand it. Maybe that is why he is an ex-Marlins executive.

I am taking the under. If I were the Dodgers I wouldn’t be too excited about Glasnow. He is an injury just waiting to happen.

Yep, that is what gave me pause after I saw your post to me. But the CBA language is clearly contradictory to some of Samson’s takes and the LA Times authors’ article goes along the same lines as I interpreted things. So I just think Samson went into that podcast half-cocked and he didn’t mind stepping outside the scope of what he was really prepared to discuss.
