If Hicks is still showing up late for meetings and not adhering to the dress code than someone needs to be tough on him. And that may very well be why Hicks said there is no issue because he knows he has gotten what he deserved. In that scenario, both Saxon and Hicks could be correct.
As much as I don`t like to bring this point up but I think some folks are bringing this up as a black rookie getting ” picked on” by a older white teammate.Some on other boards have brought that issue up because Norris said something considered “inappropriate” a few years back about certain types not playing the game the right way.

Whatever ‘The Load’ was doing to manage his clubhouse pretty much remained within the clubhouse. It rarely became ‘airing your dirty laundry in public’ the way this thing has.
Yes, I remember the Ozzie/TLR dust-up (who could forget) and the Rolen/TLR dust-up, so it did happen. But the point remains that none of that involved a player snitching on his teammates. I even remember Will Clark riding J.D. Drew (aka ‘wusscakes’ in my household) pretty good although nothing controversial came out of that.
This is completely a sign of the times if you ask me. Everyone is much more available via twitter/insta etc. and things get twisted much quicker. Other teams and sports are having similar issues.

Bw, that may well be part of it. OTOH, Hicks has opened himself up to critique by his actions too.
Well BW52 I can assure you that doesn’t apply to me since I didn’t even know Hicks was black!

That’s a great point, Pads. Today’s headlines going viral on social media (with resultant knee jerk reactions) are then supplanted by tomorrows headlines. Today’s are quickly forgotten. Everything seems to be magnified on a day to day basis.

I disagree with other journalists – often – including the one I cited here, as much or more than any other writer (though I often disagreed with Jose de Jesus Ortiz’ columns, as well). However, I do not disregard all of their reporting because I may not like their message.
Good journalists have to courage to stand behind what they believe and not write what they think others want to read. Advice not accepted. I am very comfortable with my approach, thank you.

Maybe it’s time the Cardinals move into the 21st century with their handling of players.
This whole the old days of baseball needs to stop. Now is now. Game has moved on so have people. They are players not rookies vs veterans.
I believe on most teams still, though, there is an “orientation
period” for rookies. They have to do things like carry the veteran’s equipment, dress up one night in costumes when on the road and walk around the lobby of the hotel, etc.The same is true in other sports. In the NFL, at summer camp, the rookies have to put on skits and sing their college’s alma mater in a talent show format.

These are professional baseball players at the highest level.This isn’t Sunday beer league.The majority of professional organizations (sports or otherwise) whose employees are in the public eye have documented standards of conduct and dress codes. What’s the issue? If the rules exist and you don’t enforce them, you’re probably opening the can to bigger problems than if you ignore them. If you don’t want to enforce them, don’t have them to begin with.
Agree with BW. If the club has a dress code, then you abide by it. Technically what you wear does not impact how you play. But adhering to the club’s standards matters a lot.
Then relax the dress code. Who cares if they wear shorts? It is a sport not a bank or marketing agency.
bccarn my dislike for MM as a manager is the crappy product he has put on the field the last couple years. This team won for him the first couple years due to the culture that was in place. That culture is gone after enough years of MM at the helm.
