OMG you keep backing up this foolish manager it is comical at best anymore. He told Norris to be a SNITCH, that is kiddie stuff, but hey if that is the garbage your so called good locker room manager is all about then he needs to get fired yesterday

It seems that this is a very poorly written article if you ask me. I know you know Saxon personally, but you can’t say something like this without giving any sort of specifics. ‘mercilessly riding’, ‘harassing’, are the kind of things someone needs to include facts with. Also, what are the fines for? If Hicks is arriving late consistently to meetings, then who cares who is the one that tells Matheny?

Onyxgem – If Hicks is arriving late to player meetings, who gives a crap who the player is that tells Matheny? It doesn’t read like snitch to me, despite the various reporters putting their wonderful spin on it (bully, snitch, etc)

I’m not against a little tough love and going to a player and feeling him out about another player or even a player going to a coach and voicing an opinion on a player. Bullying is such a fine line these days. I think most of us have dealt with being bullied or pushed around in school. I don’t think that’s an appropriate action in a professional environment but who really knows what’s going on. Snitching…..well I think we all can agree that you can make a lot of enemies by doing that. Norris has said he’d like to remain with the team. Does this help or hurt his chances? We all know how the Ownership doesn’t like negative press like this. Might end up one of those middle of the night press releases the Cardinals love to do when everyone is sleeping about a trade around the deadline. I wouldn’t put it past them.

There are 3 players who have caused dissension. And their names aren’t Norris or Hicks. MM has been stuck with these players.
    They need to be moved.

Crannie…. only three? Who are the ones that you selected?

MM grew up in the Cardinal Way.
Tough, hard nosed, team first baseball. If players don’t embrace that, there’s a problem. Bottom line. And if he has no say so in getting rid of them it exasperates
    the problem.

The ones I sense a past or present problem with, 14, are Fowler, Pham, and Wong.

I guess that the FO has become delusional and is too timid now to do anything. The manager is left to swing in the wind.

He’s swinging in the wind right now. Let’s see if some moves are made in the next several weeks.

Pads, if Hicks was late for meetings, then the coaches would not need Norris or anyone else to tell them. They would already know it. I am unaware of any regular player-only meetings not called by the staff.

I don’t know why Saxon did not provide specifics. Perhaps he did not want to further embarrass the people involved. In my reading it, I thought he was trying to avoid making it appear to be a hatchet job. Maybe he did not have multiple sources on the specifics, but do recall that he included direct quotes from all three (Matheny, Norris, Hicks), who acknowledge this was going on.

At some point, a point I cannot define, the public does not have a right to know all the details of the team’s inner workings.

Wasn’t Hicks “sent down” in the spring because of off the field issues? Also, I can’t imagine any 21 year old having a problem with being overseen by someone they perceive to be old like their dad…can you? Haha

That said, this would be less of an issue if it was someone other than Norris. His history of speaking out on things has been less than sterling and it doesn’t make Matheny look good to have this article phrased this way. If that’s the exact way it’s playing out, that is. I can’t speak to Saxon’s credibility but he has been around a while and the latest tone seems to be more negative on these kinds of things.

“I’ve had a lot of people come up to me and question his effort and his energy level and those are things that I can’t defend. What I can defend is trying to create opportunities for him, but not if it’s at the expense of someone that’s out there hustling and playing hard. I think everybody just needs to take a hard look in the mirror and decide what they want that next chapter to look like. In Dexter’s case, maybe taking a brief timeout, trying to reassess himself and then give him a chance for a strong second half is probably what’s best for everybody. I’m hopeful to touch base with him in the near future to really just decide what makes the most sense, but clearly he’s not playing at the level we had hoped.”

In an article by Jay Jaffe at fangraphs.com, he wrote,

Such was the reaction to Mozeliak’s scathing comments that he later issued multiple clarifications, though those were still rather unflattering.”

Note the word “scathing.” Used in reference to Mozeliak’s words above? Or am I missing something. Those comments were not scathing at all. Strong, perhaps, but not scathing. For crying out loud, is everyone watching Oprah and The View? And “unflattering?” Tea and crumpets, anyone? This is borderline effeminate.

Then Jaffe goes on to allude to the racism of “a subset of Cardinal fans.” And what does this have to do, exactly, with Mo’s “scathing” comments? Nothing. But it surely associates Mo’s analysis of Fowler with the racism of “a subset of Cardinal fans.” Because, after all, everybody wants to play the race card at every opportunity.

The short story: the media, gauging the great discontent in Cardinal nation, are looking for gas to throw on the fire. I have absolutely no idea what to make of the Norris/Hicks situation based on the news accounts. But the media sure does.

Being late was the only thing referenced in the article. What are the fines for? What is Norris “tattling” on or snitching about?

Just saying that someone is doing it without any actual examples is rather irresponsible in my opinion.

So now we have Hicks’ response:

    Tweet by Middleton (Angels Closer)

After being under his (Norris) wing last year I promise you he’s looking out for @JHicks007 Bud is a big lead by example guy. Once I learned that our relationship changed forever

    Jordan Hicks tweet in response:

I couldn’t agree more, crazy what the media will do when they think there is a story (face palm emoji) solid Vet

So much for this major clubhouse snitch we have.

There’s a hilarious response under the Hicks tweet also:

(blink twice if he made you type this lol)

The reason I rarely post anymore, not that anybody would miss me posting, is the label of negative nellie or Matheny hater if you dare to disagree with those who like Matheny. It gets tiresome to post something you disagree with with team at all only to get the same posters called you out. I think there are things to criticize from the management, Matheny, and the players. That has absolutely nothing to do with rooting for the team always. So have it your way. I am done.

Pads, like I said on Page 1:

We don’t have all the facts to make a clearer assessment.

What was Hicks doing to break the rules?
How has Norris been punishing him?
How does the rest of the team feel about Matheny’s approach?
    etc…

Like I also said, the original article has quotes from all three key participants who confirm there has been activity in this area. So, it is not irresponsible reporting. You just want more details to assess how important it may be. We don’t know.

I think it is great people involved are making positive comments and appear ready to move on – especially Hicks, who is at the bottom of the totem pole, as a 21-year old rookie. That is what one would hope and expect. I also think the All-Star break could not come soon enough.

BW, have you been watching the Saxon back peddles? Trying to limit the injury to his rep.

I have mostly been busy with four new articles on the site today, including two I wrote.

What I caught was snippets of discussion between Saxon and Goold about the Fowler-Matheny lack of communication issue. Different sources lead to different conclusions.

Saxon mentioned there was a first Middleton tweet that he deleted in which he told Hicks he experienced the same thing with Norris last year and told him to hang in there. Middleton’s second tweet is the more positive one that Pads shared above.

At this point, it would be surprising to see anything but politically-correct comments from all.

I did not hear backpedaling in the interview, though Saxon expressed surprise over some of the strong reaction. The two radio hosts did not ask him about the more in-depth specifics of what Hicks and Norris were doing.

NJ315, I am sorry you feel that way. The discussion here is far more civil than most boards I have experienced, but disagreement is inherent on any forum that exists. Rarely does anyone cross the line here, however, and when it happens, one of the mods or I address it.

NJ – no one takes issue with posters who are critical of the Cardinals ownership, general management, management, etc. as long as it’s fair and balanced. But guys who do do nothing but bash (not saying that’s you) are going to get push back.

Pads what the heck do you think Hicks is going to say it is comical you actually believe he would say anything else at all.

Again, I think the big issue is we are hearing of turmoil inside the Cardinals locker room three years in a row now. Each year, the leaks about such turmoil are coming earlier and earlier in the season. That needs to be addressed.
