stlcard25ParticipantPoor Delvin is hitting .290…but with one extra base hit and only 5 walks on the year, his OBP and SLG are barely hovering above his average.
May 8, 2019 at 2:22 pm #90254If the #stlcards' goal was for Carlos Martinez to have a busier 2nd rehab outing, it occurred for Memphis today in the eighth inning. Ground out, walk, error, steal, K, walk, fly out. No runs. 23 pitches, 12 strikes.

May 9, 2019 at 5:54 am #90271Very good pitching by Gonzalez tonight. 11 K’s. He has only given 1 or 2 homers in his short career. Lots of ground ball outs too.
ALso, I did not realize Whalen is only 21, and Perez 20. Whalen is enjoying a breakout year, and Perez is hitting better than expected. The only downside is Perez’ 5 errors already. Quite a few for someone who is said to be good glove, no bat.May 9, 2019 at 7:22 am #90276As noted on another thread, Delvin is neither walking nor getting extra base hits. Singles are better than outs, but it isn’t a solid profile.
May 9, 2019 at 7:22 am #90277The #stlcards system went 3-0 on Wednesday, as Memphis and Palm Beach won by 2-1 scores, Peoria also won, and Springfield was off. Player of the Day honors go to Edgar Gonzalez, who fanned a career-best 11 batters over six-plus innings for the Beach Birds. https://t.co/pI4W47CB8X pic.twitter.com/JQAAJfcvAo

May 9, 2019 at 7:34 am #90282Someone needs to take Perez to Jim’s Steak House a couple times a week and fill him up and out.

stlcard25ParticipantIt’s impossible to know for sure, but it sure seems like Delvin benefited greatly from whatever he was taking before he was drafted. Other than that first year in GCL, he’s had virtually no pop in his bat. It’s a shame, because even if he had Pete Kozma level bat skills he could probably carve an MLB career out, given his defensive upside.
Alas, he’ll have his draft signing bonus to fall back on, which is more than any of us could say at age 20/21.
May 9, 2019 at 10:19 am #90287I think Delvin still has a chance at a Kozma type of career. A punch and judy hitter that can hit .250 or better with an excellent glove can at least be a utility player.
