Let’s see if Kruczynski can be the “stopper” for the (0-2) S-Cards. Let’s get into the win column.

Someone asked about Ravelo. He is starting at DH tonight for Memphis. Robinson is in CF. Someone has to be on the way out with Munoz on the way. Again, my guess is either Nogowski or Mendoza.

Lane should be in CF with Robinson in LF but that’s a comment for another day.

Memphis’ game was suspended in the top of the 8th. Completion is scheduled for tomorrow before the regularly scheduled game.

Jacob Schlesener had himself a game and not a good one. Took him 46 pitches to get just 3 outs. During that span he walked 4, struck out 1 and allowed 3 hits for 5 earned runs.

Peoria pitchers must have watched Walka and company today. 10 walks given. But on a good note, it may not be too long before Gorman goes to Palm Beach, and hopefully Nunez to Peoria.

I was just looking at the Peoria roster tonight. The pitching is really, really green. Two repeaters, four up from State College, five from Johnson City and two straight from the GCL. I felt like whoever thinks that Peoria might do as well as Memphis this year is seeing something different.

There is zero chance Malcom Nunez will start his season in Peoria.

Its early but Peoria has the worst staff ERA in the MWL.

BHC, I am curious why you are so certain about Nunez to peg his initial Peoria chances at zero.

Brian, I’m not saying he couldn’t or even won’t reach Peoria this season. I dont believe that Peoria will be his first assignment. But do you really think the Cards are going to make his first stateside assignment at Peoria? If you do that is very optimistic.

Thought I’d make my way back to this website. After the change over I kind of lost track of the website and the Cardinals minor leagues. I didn’t go to Spring Training or a Chiefs game last year either. This year I went and saw a Chiefs game. They have an interesting team. Gorman obviously is the big name but Cedeno is a big guy and seems to have some pop. Whalen is tall and skinny but batting 4th so I’m not sure if they see more power in his future. Perez played short and hit 9th. He had an ok day. Double down the left field life. Ynfante had a nice catching going in full speed and laying out. Ayers is small and an average fastball but has a pretty good curveball that makes the fastball better than it should be. The 2nd pitcher really struggled with control. Chiefs had 2 oppo home runs in the time I was there. Fun experience at the park tonight.

I’m the new guy on TCN but boy am I happy to see so much coverage of the minor leagues. I live in a Springfield suburb and you would not believe the amount of non-coverage here. Didn’t make it to a game last year because of medical issues but I would like to try to make a couple this season. Minor league games are the best and most affordable for a lot of us. Years ago I went to a St Paul Saints game in Minnesota and boy was I shocked at how much entertainment they offered in addition to the game itself. This is what makes the minor leagues go – bang for the buck and the chance to see some up and comers. Thanks Brian and others for the minor league info.

BHC, yes, I believe that is possible. A lot depends on how Nunez plays in extended spring training and the timing of when a Peoria spot opens (Gorman’s promotion up). I have seen much stranger things happen so would never peg a possibility at zero. But that is just me.

Welcome back, scadder and thank you Minuteman. The Cardinals minor leagues are our specialty here. In Springfield, you used to have the best beat writer in the system in Kary Booher, but the paper cut his position a few years back and there went the coverage. You will find our long-time Springfield reporter, Derek Shore, provides very good content. Our in-depth weekly Springfield reports begin this Thursday.

    The schedule is
    Tuesday Peoria
    Wednesday Palm Beach
    Thursday Springfield
    Friday Memphis

    Coming in June
    Saturday State College
    Sunday Johnson City
    Monday Gulf Coast League

Since it was Carlson’s big day a few additional comments on him:

    1. Watching some on milb.tv last night the 2 times he was retired was a nice play by the ss up the middle on a ball that looked like a hit off the bat. And a line drive to the track in right that was caught. Swing looked a lot like the HR in the 9th. Was close to a 5 for 5 night.
    2. His swing from the left side looks good. To me it seems to have a little Jim Edmonds uppercut to it. Especially in the Texas League I think we are going to see the power totals jump this year.
    3. No reason to abandon this early, but what I have seen in spring training and the first week when he hits from the right side, it would not surprise me that he gives up switch hitting before he reaches the majors.
