Peoria has released their roster. Any surprises for anyone?

Not surprised as I was there till Wednesday. Missing from working roster then and assuming staying behind in EST are Lopes, Kirtley, and Moreno.

    Peoria thoughts

Thought Dobzanski would move up after excelling when moved to relief last year.

The Latin wave of Oviedo, Nascio, and Seijas are all together. I think all are long shots.

There is all an interesting outfield grouping of Denton, Plummer, Carson, and Machado. Machado moving up a little quicker than I expected and I had hoped Carson would be challenged at PB.

How many years are they going to let Ascanio play in the Midwest league? Not sure why he didnt move up. Will be watching Montero closely. He could be really good. Of course if he is, he is at risk in the rule 5 draft.

    Springfield thoughts

I sure hope Ellis goes to the pen. Hopefully he can step it up there.

Where is Meisner? What happened to Jones?

    That outfield looks scary bad.

    Glad Urias is at AA.

Or Mercado? They said Randy Arozareana was going to AAA, where Bader and Garcia are too. Figured Mercado would be the odd man out to AA then. Don’t see enough playing time for 4 full time OF who need to develop.

New outfielder Johan Mieses was said to be going there so that’s puzzling.

Also puzzling I counted 26 guys for a 25-man roster. Is someone on the DL?

I don’t understand how Jones has passed Helsley on the depth chart? It’s not even close comparing their 2017’s. Has Jones improved that much? Jones needs to be able to miss more bats.

With Bader moving up, does Drake get the 4th OF spot at Memphis?

Still unknown, but based on merit, I would certainly promote Arozarena. Then again, if they view it to be a 10-day maximum stint and he won’t play much, then maybe they have him stay put. Of course, the duration ultimately depends on the severity of Gyorko’s injury.

I wonder if Mieses will now be on Springfields roster assuming Arozarena is moving up to Memphis. Or is Mieses hurt?

I am guessing Derian Gonzalez and Arias would be sent down when Cecil comes back. I am excited to see both of them pitch at the current levels. Both could stick if they put together some good outings.

Any idea who is starting the 4 minor league games? I am thinking Hudson for Memphis? Maybe I heard woodford for Springfield?

FYI, if anyone is interested MILB TV is a great way to watch some minor league games. It costs, but you get a lot of games for your money, in my opinion.

I thought Drake because as the 4th OF at MEM he wouldn’t get that much playing time (less conflict). Whereas Arozarena will get plenty at SPFD. Why start an OF domino effect at this time? Also, less moving around when Bader is sent back to MEM. Let the guys settle in.

Or they give Arozarena a pat on the back for a very good spring and a taste of the next level to work toward. In any other system without so much OF competition, Arozarena would be at AAA to start the year anyway. It depends on the organization’s priority.

P.S. I would not assume it will be Bader to go down when Gyorko is ready. It could easily be Munoz instead as they stated their plans to rotate guys through and keep them fresh.

No doubt that Arozarena should be at AAA but they now already have 3 starters out there. He should be at MEM soon enough.

And Memphis had four OF starters with Bader there, so it would be no different than what they were already planning for.

I am only offering counterpoints because I think it could go either way.

The Cards FO have been known to say a lot of things and never back it up. I’m taking it for a grain of salt.
