I think Torres is ready for Springfield. He was Rule 5 eligible last year, so he needs to get challenged.
What a difference a year and the 2020 MLB draft have made on this system. Before this year our best hope for outfield help was Lane Thomas and a distant Jhon Torres. Now we have Tyler O’Neill playing like a superstar, and Nootbar, Burleson, probably Walker, and possibly Plummer looking like future contributors. Also, LJ Jones IV has been hitting Low A pitching since coming off of a brief injury stint. (I like his little back story.)
Pike with 11 Ks for Springfield. These Indy pitchers we signed have largely been pretty good, or better, and stabilized our minors pitching a little.
Nunez with his first AA home run.
Clean sweep for all 4 minor league teams tonight. It is the the first or 2nd time this has happened all year.
Toerner sure looks like a different player since his stint in Memphis. He seemed to be flailing often, but now is going the other way, and looking much better. Another who is starting to find his footing is Edwin Nunez. He has pitched much better the last 4 or 5 outings. This gives hope to see if Nunez can be a starter this year or next.
And after watching Walker for 4 or 5 games now, I think he will adapt quickly to high A Peoria. Even with Sosa results so far, he has showed many intangibles that many good players have. I am curious though if he can stay at third.
And his he shows he’s ready for Peoria, he could see Springfield in 2022.
With a strong finish, I can envision him possibly taking our top prospect, and in the top 25 in all of baseball.
27, my dad and I will be going to see Walker on the 18th. Really looking forward to it! I’m hoping by then he has started to adjust to the level.
Malcolm Nunez has the build of Terry Pendleton, but with more power I would imagine. I am glad to see him having a good year. I view him as a top 10 prospect in our system.
gscottar, I’m kind of torn on what to think about Nunez. Clearly he has excellent hand-eye coordination and bat-to-ball skills for his age and level. That said, I was hoping for more power than what he has shown this year. Also, he is allergic to drawing walks, similar to Elehuris Montero. I wonder how that will impact him as he advances and faces better pitchers. Remember, Montero dominated A-ball but really struggled when he got promoted and pitchers had better stuff and command. It’s been a couple years since I saw Nunez play in person, but by looking at his numbers I wonder about his plate discipline. Also, if more power doesn’t come, how useful is he as a hitter given he will likely occupy a spot on the defensive spectrum that traditionally expects power, such as first base or corner outfield?
