From the player’s standpoint it can pay handsomely to keep dusting himself off and climbing back on the horse. Rosenthal is a good example. He has made most of his career earnings, Millions, since his 2017 TJ and subsequent release by STL, despite only staying on the field for a handful of innings here and there. 60 or 70 IP in 5 years for around $20+ million or so. Jack and Alex both have one more arb year left and are FAs after 2023, so if they can pull off a Rosenthal and show a glimmer for a few innings here and there over the next 2 or 3 years they can set themselves up for a nice life.
August 12, 2022 at 6:13 am #195130Reyes is effective when healthy. But the health may just never be there. Still, like bling says it’s a lucrative business if you have the pedigree and put up results even in a short stint. It’s a real shame that the Cards’ uberprospects have generally been busts for one reason or another lately. Hopefully Alex gets on track for one final run in St Louis…Jack too, for that matter.

August 12, 2022 at 10:10 am #195150I had never heard of the “Home Run Cycle” until Redmond did it, and in consecutive innings as well! Needless to say it is an ultimate rarity, and this is only the second time in professional baseball history that it has happened.
Notice how these names from the 1980s and 1990s are starting to be more common now that these kids are grown up – lots of Jordan’s, and now a Chandler (“Friends”).
August 12, 2022 at 4:54 pm #195195Garrett Williams gets another fill in start for Memphis tonight.
August 13, 2022 at 7:06 am #195298The #STLCards system was 2-4 on Friday with the two rookie clubs winning. August 13, 2022 at 9:39 pm #195428Liberatore followed his gem last week with a total dud tonight. His inconsistency leaves a lot to be desired.
August 14, 2022 at 7:28 am #195445Lack of offense did in the four full season clubs again. Liberatore and Graceffo pitching wasn’t enough.
The #STLCards system went 2-4 on Saturday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, no. 1 prospect Jordan Walker, had two hits, a walk, a stolen base, an outfield assist, an RBI and a run. August 14, 2022 at 7:46 am #195448I understand why Flores loaded up on pitching this year again. Some of those staffs are pretty hapless.
August 14, 2022 at 8:13 am #195452It was surprising to see the recent BA article about the total turnaround of the system. It is better than last year’s historic low, but the system W/L record in aggregate is still below .500. Pitching remains the biggest reason why. The worst is Springfield. Even with McGreevy and Graceffo, Springfield’s team ERA is over 5.50. Memphis and Springfield are both over 4.60.
However, the offenses are really good only at Triple-A and Double-A. From Peoria on down, the aggregate batting average of the four lowest affiliates is just .229. Drafting pitching heavily means not drafting hitting.
August 14, 2022 at 10:16 am #195465Sunday feature from Blake Newberry about this week’s biggest newsmaker.
August 14, 2022 at 4:09 pm #195566Good to see Won Bin Cho get his is first pro HR Friday and good to see Ian Bedell return from to TJ surgery. Both of those guys have bright futures.
August 14, 2022 at 8:18 pm #195597Ralston also pitched well in his last appearance, striking out the side.
August 14, 2022 at 8:52 pm #195605I saw that McGreevey got hit around the other day. 50 or so pro innings usually doesn’t make somebody ready for AA. I think Liberatore and Zack Thompson are also feeling the effects of beaming up.
August 15, 2022 at 7:26 am #195627The #STLCards system went 3-1 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis 1B Luken Baker, was a triple away from the cycle and had five RBI. Other standouts: Conner Capel, Chase Pinder, Mike Antico, Inohan Paniagua & Leonardo Bernal. (free) https://t.co/gvlVehftgt pic.twitter.com/GjKEHIIZdX

August 15, 2022 at 7:28 am #195628The lost 2020 season disrupted a lot of players, with pitchers feeling it more than hitters. You have to hope they can work through the readjustment, short and long term.
There may also have been some internal pressure to move promising arms up more quickly because the pitching pipeline had slowed considerably after the Cardinals shifted draft focus to hitters.
August 15, 2022 at 5:13 pm #195726Nice honor!
No doubt about it! Matt Koperniak is your Texas League Double-A Player of the Week!
Koperniak led all of the Texas League with a .524 AVG, while posting a 1.756 OPS, 10 RBIs, 10 runs & 7 XBH in Hodgetown!
AND he became just the third SpringBird EVER to hit for the cycle on 8/9! pic.twitter.com/cSLOhooq8i

August 16, 2022 at 7:00 am #195795The #STLCards' rookie clubs went 1-2 on Monday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, SS Javier Bolivar, blasted a game-winning home run for the FCL club. Other standouts include Jose Cordoba and Anyelo Encarnacion. @luke_kotcher reports. (free) https://t.co/z8xj64Xmrc pic.twitter.com/Al4VKiwusu
